The catch? They've all got Criterion logos on their thumbnails.

I don't know a whole lot about how Criterion does their business, do they always plaster "The Criterion Collection" over films they only have streaming rights to?

Or...are we looking at a possible set of future releases?
They had similar cover art for their streaming only titles on Hulu.

It's gotta be an improvement over that trainwreck of an Entire Mystery. I can't understand how that thing passed quality control.
Never had any problems with it myself.

Transfer is great.

...no audio issues of any kind.

I keep telling myself this is just too good to be real, but if they released the first Godzilla, why not more? They could just make up any price they want and I would find a way to pay it. My #1 "want" is War of the Gargantuas, english friendly with the extras of the japanese blu.

And for titles that are on Blu-ray now too (e.g. The Brood, Scanners, Lady Snowblood, etc..), the cover art doesn't indicate anything either way.

Yes. All that this means is that they have yet to commissioned or designed art.

If you're an international customer, the B&N sale isn't really worth it if you're only hankering after 2 or at most 3 releases, is it?

For anything less than 5-6 titles, I find it better to use wowhd periodically when their prices are dropped to comparable levels overall (since shipping is free).

As I said on the Godzilla movies thread if these were physical releases I would buy them all in a heartbeat!

I'm buying any and all Toho monster movies from 1955 - 1984 that Criterion does a fresh scan for. Day one, no need for sale price. I already own all the Japanese blurays so I have evetything already, but those old HD transfers ate in bad need of a Criterion scan. I have the 1954 Godzilla from Criterion already - bought it day one.

Picked up the four November titles yesterday for $10.24...after a $74.52 gift card.
I'm complete until the Olympic set is released and then I may have to sell one of my kid's kidneys to keep this train going.

I doubt it. IIRC there's some fairly long lists out there of players that were affected. I think it's a bit disingenuous to dismiss something as an 'equipment problem' just because some consumers didn't report it. It's not like the affected users' equipment had problems with Blu-rays in general. There should have been a replacement program.

At least the package design was good ( the reissue at least ). That's how the Star Wars saga set should have been done.

Holy cow those Godzilla titles.

If they're looking for "easy money" titles to subsidize the other stuff, then count me in. My current G collection is a hodge-podge of DVDs and Blus from the different distributors, I would love to have some unity.

Ray, check the TCM app, "The Uninvited" was on their On-Demand for the last few weeks, it's probably still available on-line if it's not on On-Demand.

Do you find 1940s gothic horror films frightening? If not, then no.

It's not on TCM on Demand anymore, movies are only on there for a week after they air on the channel.

And I wouldn't recommend a blind buy of The Uninvited. It's alright, but if you didn't love The Innocents I'm not sure how safe it'd be. Killer final line, though.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is definitely a "descendant" of Zen.

A Touch of Zen is a great, great film--one of those three-hour epics that feels like it's half as long--but if you aren't really a fan of CT, HD it might not be to your taste. For what it's worth, I think Zen is the better of the two films, and it tells a different, "pulpier" story.

(There were also some concerns about the look of the Criterion disc, which I don't happen to share, but, you know, full disclosure.)

I liked it, but if you didn't like the Innocents I'd say watch don't buy.

However I wasn't that blown away by The Innocents on my initial viewing, but with subsequent viewings its become one of my favorites.
