That's the problem. Ten's just too restrictive.

A friend asked me for my ten favorite films of all-time on Facebook. I gave her thirty, and even that was a challenge.

Almost two years ago, I made up a list of my 10 desert island Criterions. Reviewing it today, I find that only 5 of those made it onto my current list. Here is my list. I'm not saying these are the ten best, but they're the ten that have the most re-watch value for me.*
  1. The Asphalt Jungle
  2. The Big Chill
  3. A Hard Day's Night
  4. His Girl Friday
  5. The Killing
  6. McCabe and Mrs Miller
  7. On the Waterfront
  8. The Philadelphia Story
  9. Red River
  10. The Sweet Smell of Success

Honorable mention goes to The Third Man. If I owned the Criterion, I'd definitely include it, but I'm quite happy with my StudioCanal release.

* At least for now.

It falls under the IFC deal. If Criterion wants to release it then it's theirs.

It seems the critical response was lukewarm to film. I don't think it ever played here (Or if it did it was gone after a week).

Has Criterion ever released/upgraded anything that IFC previously released on DVD?

Since Bertrand Bonello seems to be gaining some steam after Nocturama, I'm curious whether Criterion would consider releasing House of Tolerance/L'Apollonide, even though there's already an IFC DVD.

^ Good grief - this month has been cruising by so fast, I hadn't noticed how close we are to the 15th. Assuming that's the day this go-round.

I wish that along with the new drawing each year, Criterion would provide a legend to last year's clue.

Just out of curiousity, are there any unsolved (or unverified) clues left from the 2017 drawing?

That's a good question. I believe that all of last year's clues have been announced.

Holy hell, we're only three weeks away from the next one already.

Where does the time go?

https://www.criterion.com/explore/20...jesus-s-top-10

I don't know if this was posted here, but Zola Jesus (who made one of the better albums of 2017 imo) recently listed her Criterion top 10. Some dark choices to be sure. Apparently Martyrs is her favorite horror film too.
