Limiting to ten is tough, but if it's "blu-ray only", right now I'd say:

The Killing
House
Sword of Doom
Eraserhead
The Seventh Seal
Lone Wolf and Cub set
Tati set
Island of Lost Souls
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
Night and the City

Valley of the Dolls is close, but I need to rewatch it to see if it holds.

I haven't watched it yet. I know, I know.

I need more hours in the day. Seriously.

Top Ten Criterion
  • Katsi Trilogy
  • A Canterbury Tale *
  • Wild Strawberries
  • The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
  • Il Sorpasso
  • Three Colours
  • Jacques Tati Collection
  • Les Blank: Always for Pleasure
  • Life of Brian
  • Wings of Desire

I would also add Stalker, but I haven't seen it yet (only in the cinema!)

I used to own it. It's an upscale.
The main benefits of it are improved audio quality and better looking subs than the DVDs.
We are still waiting on a true HD remaster though.

Surely you could include individual films within boxsets, since those too each have their own spine number.

My list goes to eleven to get that extra push over the cliff.

In alphabetical order:

Barry Lyndon
Belle de Jour
The Double Life of Veronique
The Game
Mullholand Dr
La Notte
Punch Drunk Love
Rosemary's Baby
The Seventh Seal
Traffic
Wings of Desire

Usually The Killing would be on my list, but just having rewatched Barry Lyndon I chose it. If I watched The Killing right now I would probably switch back.

When Night of the Living Dead comes out my list will go to twelve.

Marketa Lazarová
Le Samourai
Ugetsu
Diabolique
Throne of Blood
The Music Room
Harakiri
Rashomon
In the Mood For Love
Seven Samurai

Can't stress Marketa Lazarová enough. Such an amazing film. Most of these were selected because I watch them so much. They all evoke certain moods and create amazing atmosphere. If I listed OOP's it would certainly have a few Ealing Studio films in it like Kind Hearts and Coronets or Dead of Night. Really wish Criterion could get a hold of a lot of these. The StudioCanal vintage classics line in the UK is superb.

Haven’t thought about this in a while, but even with some incredible recent additions, these are some of the films I’m grateful to have from Criterion:

01. Paths of Glory
02. Brazil
03. Eraserhead
04. 8 ½
05. Wings of Desire
06. Badlands
07. Repo Man
08. Down by Law
09. 3 Women
10. The Red Shoes

I’ll also cheat by adding that I omitted out of print and/or DVD only releases such as The Third Man, Grand Illusion, Chungking Express, Hobson’s Choice and The Lady Eve. But like everyone here, I could go on and on.

I keep looking at these Top 10 lists and thinking, "Man, I should have included that one on my own.", but then I look back at my list and realize that there's nothing that I want to kick out.
