yep, just ordered Election (and other stuff), and used the TIMETOGIVE 20% off too, which works out better than the 50% off sale.

I guess I didn't expect the flaws to be as noticeable as they were to me.

Oh, but they can be removed with current and future digital image technology, it's just a matter of spending money to do it. The Criterion edition transfer of I MARRIED A WITCH is a 2K one from the nitrate 35mm OCNs and a fine grain master copy. Although it could use further digital wizardry, I think it looks mostly fine.

I just hate B&N. My last 5 items were clearly used movies (lots of marks on cases/discs). Do they do it often??
Since I got them almost 8 months after purchasing them (cause they were shipped to a friend's place so that she would bring me the package when she visited me), I don't think I can exchange it/make a complaint.

I still haven't received the order I placed in early November and that was shipped directly to me.

I should have clarified. Removing them would likely be cost prohibitive. I'd imagine removing minor scratches or age marks is easier than removing lines that could run the entire width or height of the frame.

Given the age of the film, I'm much more inclined to be forgiving when it comes to flaws of this nature.

Just picked up Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words. Thanks for the heads up on the sale and coupon at B&N. $17.99 is an awfully sweet price for it.

B&N members can place multiple single orders as the code is reusable.

Just got an e-mail a few minutes ago confirming Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Eclisse is getting a reissue.

Quote:
Hello Bill,

Thanks for writing. L'ECLISSE is not going out of print but the dual-format packaging is. We've run out of the dual-format stock and are in the process of producing the packaging for single Blu-ray and DVD releases. These discs will be available again in the new year.

I hope this helps!

Just picked up 4 Criterion’s at the B&N 40% off sale. Used a 20% order coupon, so they came out to about 50% off.

Stalker (blind buy)
The 400 Blows
Letter Never Sent
City Lights.

Was going to get Paris Texas, L’Avventura, The Bicycle Thieves, and Hiroshima Mon Amour, but they are all OOS.

Very excited for Stalker.

The 100 Years of Olympics set can be had for $179 plus tax at B&N (or 10% less for members in store).

Now I'm off to find the right stimulant that will keep me up for 4 1/2 days so I can devour it in one sitting...

Shouldn't you watch one every 4 years?

52 films X 4... I would run out of time before I finish them. Criterion really should pat themselves on the back for crafting a box set large enough for a buyer to have to calculate if they will be alive long enough to finish it.

Stopped by B&N today and picked up the David Lean Directs Noël Caward boxset for $40.06 (40% off blu-rays + 10% member discount + 30% member coupon). I’ve only seen Blithe Spirit and longed for an individual release, but now I’m going to give the other 3 films a try and see how they affect me.

I’m starting with Brief Encounter tonight.

You're in for a treat. Brief Encounter is one of my favorite discoveries in the collection. I think it's a flawless movie.

You mean every 2 years. The Olympic games are held every 2 years (Summer and Winter).

In Which We Serve is another must watch. Brief Encounter is aces. I have not managed to see the other films.

Speaking frankly, Blithe Spirit is the worst in that set so you're in for a wonderful experience. Brief Encounter and Happy Breed, followed slightly behind by In Which We Serve are all terrific films.

does anything interesting happen after about the 45 minute mark of Personal Shopper? It wouldn't be fair for me to dismiss it entirely because it was late and 45 minutes was as far as I got, but this one is pretty dull. loose thematic connections and a lot of poking around on her iPhone.

Blithe Spirit is the only reason I'd buy that boxset and the only reason I haven't is because of that. The other films are excellent, but just don't interest me that much.
