I forgot to put it on my wishlist, but I'd really like to see Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure finally get a physical release this year. Criterion have had the rights for quite a while, and it seems like something that would sell reasonably well, so maybe it'll happen.

I think it's just your perception. The film is in the correct AR and I've never felt that it looked vertically stretched. Not the most accurate of guides but if you observe the curvature of Takashi Shimura's bald pate in this screen it follows a perfectly natural curve, and doesn't look squeezed / stretched

Yep!

Now we just need to get the Last Queen of France in the Collection, and all will be right with the world!

The Awful Truth? You mean the The Awful Truth that's been at the top of my Netflix queue for 2 months but is always a Long Wait and gets skipped over? The Awful Truth that's one of this fairly new Preston Sturges fan's missed titles, that The Awful Truth?

Cool.

It definitely seemed to affect some shots more than others.

How do others feel about the "Hot damn!" subtitle? Completely took me out of the film.

I saw a 35mm print of Seven Samurai at a theater a couple of years back. The Criterion Collection Blu-ray looks identical in terms of aspect ratio.

Scarlet Empress is a classic rebus.

Gotta be The Thin Man - Mr Bones next to the dog.

...which is The Awful Truth (exact replica of an image in the film).

Other Side of Hope, Graduation, sure...

Out of the hundreds of movies with "moon" in the title, why would this be Paper Moon? There's nothing paper about it. And a Swedish flag; it's the Bergman nickname that someone mentioned back.

Same thing for the tree. What's "...of Life" about it? You could just as well say Roots. It reminds me of the art for Snow White and the Huntsman (steelbook), which is unlikely, so where did that come from? Is that some iconic image?

Finally, yes, it's virgin olive oil but why only three? There were 5 sisters. And why are they wearing shorts and running around? More like Virgin Spring, methinks, another Bergman.

Hi Great Owl. This comment really doesn't represent the above quote but I remember you saying you loved Tourneur's Curse Of The Demon, which would be a great Criterion addition. Anwyay, I just read that Peggy Cummins who starred in it passed away a few days ago.

any news about Win Wender's Until the End of the World?

I was under the impression that it would be released in 2017.... kinda disappointed.

Those two particular films are ones that I've often thought would be perfect additions to Criterion - they're both fantastic.

On a separate note, you guys have got me completely craving a CC edition of The Thin Man. I agree with those who do not think that the skeleton is for Dead Man, as it's been well covered, but unfortunately, there's no end to what it could actually represent.

In my limited experience with them, yes. However, the current release is completely bare bones so anything extra would be a bonus and they said it will be their own release.

I believe Indicator in the UK are working on a release of Night/Curse of the Demon (which should be region-free).

I knew I forgot a few from my wish list.

Match Point -- I would love this. I'm spacing right now, is there any Scarlett in the Collection at all right now?

Oh, duh -- Ghost World. How could I forget that? Anyways, more Scarlett is always a good thing. And of course more Woody Allen.

I doubt any Woody Allen film will get the Criterion treatment.

If I recall correctly, he refuses to do extras.

The German BD of Match Point, from Paramount actually has some extras, including an interview with Woody Allen.

With regards to the new restoration of Annie Hall, I do have to wonder if Criterion won't release it, who would. Kino doesn't have it, and Arrow probably doesn't either. It could come directly from MGM, but that seems unlikely. I feel like, if Criterion doesn't release it, it probably just won't be released.

Well, even if he doesn't want to do them, he doesn't have to be the one to do them.

Yes, I was saddened to read about that this morning.

My Criterion 2018 wishlist that I posted actually included two Peggy Cummins movies, Gun Crazy and Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon.
