I’ve heard a rumor that the Belle de jour reissue will come with a new kind of experimental bonus feature, Criterion and the spacetime continuum. They send Jon Mulvaney’s DeLorean through a wormhole, and Catherine Deneuve from 1967 travels across space and time to come watch the film with you.
Though the MSRP would be driven up exponentially, as Plutonium is still quite costly in the year 2018, I’d expect this to sell well. Unfortunately, it would only be available as a digipak, so some of our members would have to pass on the chance to meet Miss Deneuve. Zut alors. |

I wonder how this Criterion release of Night of the Living Dead stacks up next to the black case Japanese release? I know I am loving the packaging and will probably be unable to keep myself from the purchase. Silence of the lambs also looks amazing.

I can see my shelf from where I'm sitting and there are a load of digipaks I've had for several years that may as well have been bought yesterday. It's really not difficult to maintain them. |

Watched L’Avventura today. Movie is a masterpiece obviously, but has anyone notice the amount of “hairs” on the print used for the blu? Was there nothing Criterion could do about that? I don’t really know much about the removal of things like that.

![]() ![]() Last night I was browsing the collection thinking to myself, "Let's see something that's pacy and action-packed and tests the new subwoofer." Somewhere it became this movie. Truth be told, it's more exciting than Solaris, and only towards the end where the Writer is berating the Stalker did I begin to feel the heavy-handedness. After seeing it on national TV as a kid (in part, I imagine, I doubt I sat through it all), my first viewing as an adult was more than a decade ago on the Artificial Eye DVD, which was struck from a weak source and encoded shoddily. The new Mosfilm restoration is amazing, although the sepia scenes sometimes acquire a tinge of urine yellow more at home in a David Fincher movie. |

I certainly noticed them, and it seemed odd that they hadn't been removed. Like you, I don't know much about how that's done, so perhaps they had to be left in to preserve the remaining integrity of the film. But they do stand out in several places.

Stalker definitely has more action
![]() On a different note, and one relating to your avatar, I watched Pale Flower yesterday and I found it to be a mind-blowing gangster flick. Some things I really loved about the film and that really stood out to me (aside from the amazing black and white norish cinematography, and that back alley cat and mouse chase) were when they were sitting at the table and Muraki asks his buddy about Yoh. What I like about this scene, besides everything, is how his buddy is touching the girls face and gazing upon her beauty in adoration. I rewound it like four or five times to take in everything here. I actually did that a few times through the film. Another thing that really got me was when Muraki was telling Saeko that he's the "scum of the earth" and he knows it, but even still he forgives himself. Saeko then says she forgives herself too, and doesn't care what others say. The way she turned her head when she said that made me feel as if she were talking to me, even though she wasn't looking at the camera. Brilliant. And I love how she plays the voyeur at the end. Oh, and when they found out that all that time she was [Show spoiler]

Ugh. Still think that Silence of the Lambs cover art is some of the worst that Criterion has ever done.
