Still, for 2018, I hope Criterion gets a shot at Eyes Wide Shut and The Shining.

I doubt Warner gives up the rights to The Shining.

I think you’re right but I hope we don’t have to wait until the 40th anniversary in 2020 for a remaster.

That's only 2 years though.. It's not like waiting 10 years or something.

I got the SONY S1700 on Amazon. Has worked great so far, but I've only had it for 3 weeks.

However, having seen friend's and family's Blu Ray players (of all brands) take a dump so many times, so far I've just kept using my PS4 for all my region free and region A Blu Rays, and used my regionless player for any titles that are B, or C (if I ever get any, I don't have a region C disk yet). This might not be practical for some because of room or clutter but that's what I'm doing.

For me, that would be a total of 13 years of waiting.

Though that said, I'll be glad to wait the additional two years if Lolita, A Clockwork Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut are released in the meantime. Especially if we are going to get a UHD release of The Shining.

On the other side of the pond here, I have a MR Toshiba BDX-1200 in the spare room, but for my main viewing I have two region B players (an older Sony relegated to DVD playback and a shiny new Panasonic UHD modded for all-region DVD playback) and one region A (a Samsung I bought in a BestBuy in San Diego a couple of years ago). Add to that a Toshiba HD-DVD player -- I have a large-ish glass TV shelf thing which is wide enough for these in a 2x2 arrangement (with amp and PVR on the bottom shelf). I like the luxury of multiple players/am too lazy to change disks

I laughed, I'm the same way. Sometimes it's like what requires the least amount of effort to get this thing playing?

Indeed - players are so small nowadays its no pain to have several. I think the three BD players could all fit inside the HD-DVD

I have had my Oppo BDP-93 for over 6 years now. It's a freakin' tank, but I love it. I've never had a problem with the performance of the player itself. I did have to replace the mod kit once, as it failed after a move. However, the mod kit plugs right into the back and is a snap to replace (if need be).

There's probably other foreign films I'm forgetting.
Pretty sure Lionsgate has the monopoly on all the A24 stuff.

I've used a Panasonic DMP BD60 for the past several years, and it works well for me.

I got a Sony S1200 back in January of 2016. I paid $99.99 for it on Amazon.

It seems to work very well. I've had no problems.

Yeah, I can only see a couple of those on that list hitting the collection.

Watched Westfront 1918 last night and all I can say is WOW! I am not a war movie fan at all and this film blew me away. The ending is so powerful! It’s amazing that this was filmed in 1930, almost 100 years later I don’t think man kind has really evolved much. Everyday we are greeted with headlines that a major war could break out at any minute.

If you liked The Bridge then I’m almost certain you will enjoy this one as well.

Plus be sure to watch the supplement with French and German WWI veterans discussing the film and their real life war time experiences. It was fascinating.
Going to watch the other Pabst film tonight.

I have my CCs arranged by spine number on my shelves and having to sit Westfront next to The Breakfast Club and Election just doesn’t seem right lol not necessarily knocking the latter two as they are both films I really enjoy but boy are they not nearly as powerful and moving as Westfront.

What's the name of the Kurosawa with the multiple witnesses and the different stories? I recall passing on it when I initially browsed through, but with Ran and Seven Samurai now under my belt I think it might be worth a look.

That is a great mini review. Also, great to hear others excited about Pabst films. I was super excited to hear they were coming out with more of his films when the announcements came out. I am a fan of German expressionism and love my pandora’s Box criterion.
