I do this as well. I call it "Gearing Up For Retirement". I've still got quite a few more years to go, but still...

Arsenic and Old Lace, maybe. The Thin Man. The Big Clock. The Bad and the Beautiful. A Face in the Crowd. Oh, or maybe some Preminger. Advise and Consent or The Best Man would be pretty awesome. Spinal Tap would be pretty cool. Stray Dog, Drunken Angel or The Bad and the Bea...The Bad Sleep Well would be most welcome.

And I've been yammering about Charley Varrick for years. That would be the perfect meat to this week's Criterion sandwich.

Place an order Tuesday, get great announcements on Thursday, have the Tues order show up Friday.
Believe me, I hope you're right. But I've grown very cynical with them, LOL.

Wish I could delay five minutes worth of work for several days because it was President's Day.....

Of those only Scarlet Empress and maybe Bull Durham but both would be sales buys.

A Mishima upgrade would be amazing.

May seems like a great month for John Sayles' Lone Star as well.

I equate purchasing Blu-rays for my collection to stocking a backyard pond with catfish.

I'm not going to empty the entire pond before stocking more catfish. I'll go fishing once or twice a day, and catch one or two catfish a day, but there will always be many more of them right there in the pond waiting for me to catch whenever I want to catch them. I constantly keep the pond stocked so that I can enjoy fishing indefinitely.

I probably won't catch all of the fish in the pond before I die, but I'll have at least enjoyed fishing every day.

They've finally updated their website to reflect the upcoming re-release (standard case, no DVDs) of Scanners.

I have well over a hundred unwatched films, but that's mostly due to buying the United Artists 90-Film Prestige Collection and a 28-film Abbott and Costello set.

Re-bought all the Bond films in November and really ought to watch those discs, too. I chipped away at my 20th Century Fox 75-film set for two years only to find that the 73rd was scratched and wouldn't play.

I watched The Silence of the Lambs when I got it, but beyond that I can't remember the last time that happened. Thus, the pile grows and grows.

for organization on this site, I have a category called "unwatched / never seen." right now there are about 18 titles in there, so around 7.5%.

I also own a lot of titles that I have seen and really enjoyed, subsequently bought the Blu-ray, but have not revisited. I'd guess that number is around 15% - maybe around 25 - 30 titles.

My new stock "hope" until it's announced is going to be some form of those Toho kaiju films. Though I think it may not be til November if it's going to be this year (in keeping with when Zaoitchi and the Lone Wolf set were released).

Still anxiously awaiting UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD as well.

But I am wondering if maybe there's something Bergman related coming, especially given that the sale was a hair earlier than usual and they had the emphasis on him.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't know how many unwatched discs I have in my collection. Over the past several months I've managed to whittle down my blind buys from about 60 to 2, which I'll watch this weekend, and I consider THAT a huge achievement.

I had 200 unwatched films maybe 5-6 years ago. I furiously rallied through them over a couple months, and purged anything I was hesitating to watch. Been completely caught up ever since

Also, come on Sisters or TCTTHWAHL

so is Graduation supposed to be coming from Criterion?
I saw it on Netflix recently and it seemed like a pretty standard Eurpoean art-house drama. nothing spectacular about it. the lead, Adrian Titieni, emoted like he was starring in a Bresson film.

is there supposed to be some kind of box set of films directed by Cristian Mungiu? I've not heard anything like that, but a couple posters in the news thread are talking about it like it is an inevitability.
