I saw it on Netflix recently and it seemed like a pretty standard Eurpoean art-house drama. nothing spectacular about it. the lead, Adrian Titieni, emoted like he was starring in a Bresson film.

is there supposed to be some kind of box set of films directed by Cristian Mungiu? I've not heard anything like that, but a couple posters in the news thread are talking about it like it is an inevitability.
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Beyond the Hills, and Graduation are supposed to be getting the Criterion treatment.

Artificial Eye just announced a standalone release of 4M3W2D the other day so maybe Criterion will get on the bandwagon and release one, as well.

I haven't even bothered to put any of my collection in here. I have my own database, which I started when my collection was mostly homemade discs of NBA games.

I just don't shelve anything until I've watched it. The coffee table has been overloaded lately.

Anyone one of these movies will make me ecstatic:

Greed
The Devils
Annie Hall
Manhatten
Magnificent Ambersons
The Mother and the *****
Any Kubrick

Upgrades:

Carl Dreyer Boxset (I know BFI released a box set but I'm waiting to see what kind of package Criterion can put together)
Viridiana
Andrei Rublev
The Spirit of the Beehive

Probably a low chance any of these are announced but hope springs eternal.

Edit -

Bizarre automatic censorship for the 6th film on the list but it's the movie Boris Eustache stubbornly refuses to license at a reasonable price. I'm hoping he relents at some point or he will die not having made a penny from his father's movies.

Spirit of the Beehive is long overdue.

Also this counts as my obligatory “TreeofLife4KPlz” post for announcement day. Although I did guess the sale date correctly so maybe I’m on a guessing hot streak.

I wonder when Bowling for Columbine will get a release.

I've never seen it or any Moore documentary film for that matter, but I remember it being on the New Years rumor list.

I had a similar experience. Early last year I noticed my unwatched count had gotten up around 300 and I decided that at the very least I wanted to get it down under 250. And with a little effort and a little discipline I managed to get it down to just under 400.

I really want The Spirit of the Beehive upgraded, but I also want them to release more Víctor Erice films!

Had some time on my hands last evening and explored the bonus content of 2 recently watched Criterions: Rebecca and Le Samourai.

Has anyone by any chance read the booklet included with Rebecca? The Hitchcock/Selznick correspondence provided is really fascinating. Gives great insight into both men. I actually felt kind of badly for Hitch after reading Selznick's take on his original treatment ideas. It kind of reminded me of turning in a grade school English term paper and having it returned bathed in red ink. Yikes. You can definitely see that Selznick's rep was earned honestly. Can't argue with the final result, the movie is insanely good.

Really touching story relayed by one of Melville's nephews about how Delon reacted upon learning of Melville's death. Those 2 were absolute solid gold together.

Glad Criterion is still supplying quality bonus content for those of us that enjoy it. The studios have began to drop the ball in that regard somewhat. Was reminded yesterday exploring that great content why I am still in love with physical media.

Roman Holiday is one me and my wife keep hoping for, whatever the reason for it not being on Blu Ray needs to go away.

While we wait: I've often wondered exactly what reviewers mean when they say a disc makes skin look waxy. Like, I see what I think they mean sometimes, but I've never seen an image and though "Oh that's CLEARLY what they mean."

Caps-a-holic comparison of the Criterion SotLs and the previous US Blu make it very, very apparent: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=...8&l=0&i=0&go=1
http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=...6&l=0&i=8&go=1

The color-timing on that second one...

If Criterion announced All About My Mother and Happy Together, I'd probably faint.
