For instance all of my Chinese cinema is together, regardless if it's Stephen Chow's comedies or Zhang Yimou's heart-wrenching dramas. Because, for me, all Chinese/Hong-Kong/Taiwanese films are a "mood" for me, despite their variances. However for US cinema I have Westerns (regardless of year),"Classics" (Silent-1960s-sih), and "Modern" (1970-ish-present). BUT some of these fall into their own sub-genre of "cult mood" away from the other US films. These would include blaxploitation, Roger Corman produced films, gialli (yes I know most gialli are European-but I don't care), 1980's-1990's horror. The "moods" are something like: European films (Bergman films, Godard films, Ken Russell films, etc.) Korean films (Ryoo Seung-wan films, Kim Ji-woo films, Park Chan-wook films) Japanese films (Kurosawa films, Miike films, Sono films, Suzuki films) Latin American, African, Oz & Kiwi films US films: Cult (Switchblade Sisters, Eating Raoul, Repo Man) Western (Ride the High Country, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid) Classics (Wings, His Girl Friday, Bogart flicks) Modern (Midnight Cowboy, Serpico, Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom) Chinese films: Shaw Brothers & Golden Harvest kung-fu flicks/everything else Television shows (I Love Lucy, Monty Python, Twin Peaks) Music/Concerts Some actors and directors fall within these moods but have all their titles grouped together such as Billy Wilder, Joan Crawford, Viggo Moretensen, Robert Altman, Song Kang-ho, Joe Dante, etc, regardless of country or genre because some of these artists are a "mood" unto themselves for me. Some people, like Verhoeven, are spread out, with all his early films being in the "European" category, his American work being in the "cult" section (i.e. Robocop, Showgirls,) and his newer films back to the European cat (i.e. Black Book, Elle). It's all kind of idiosyncratic. But nothing in my collection is categorized by year, name, or company/brand. I don't have my titles listed on the site, but as I've said elsewhere, it's very similar to The Great Owl's collection but with heaps more Asian cinema. It's ease of access for me. I instinctively know what "mood" each title is and thus where to look. It's just mainly by whether I want to have a beer and laugh or have a beer and cry. Feel free to ask me which title belongs to which "mood" if you're curious. Last edited by 20th Century Boy; 02-16-2018 at 11:36 PM. |

I'm in the process of re-organizing my collection in fact, and getting absolutely nowhere since I can't decide what to do. It's actually sort of pathetic if you want the truth. Heh. |

Flash sale haul came in. Plus, The Lost World's been on sale.
![]() ![]() Breakfast Club--would have been happy with the 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray, but I couldn't resist the CC edition. It does look good. To get the best of everything, I just put my old Blu-Ray and DVD in a 3-disc case with the new one. Stagecoach and In the Mood for Love are two movies I didn't think I'd want, but I caved on account that they were on my mind and I wanted to revisit them. It seems like most of my top favorites are always the ones I dislike on the first viewing, but somehow warm up to as time goes on. These two might wind up falling into the same category. I skimmed through some scenes in them, and I did feel an urge to just sit back and let the films absorb me. The whole lot of these grabbed my attention. But not tonight though. Rented The Night Porter, so we'll see how that goes... |

Just received my order from Criterion. One of the movies I ordered, Moonrise Kingdom, arrived with a sticker of the title on part of the cardboard case. When I tried to gently remove it, it tore a small part of the front cover. There was also a paper backing that, when I removed it, left multiple stains from the residue of the sticky material that held the paper to the back of the case. Does anyone know if Criterion offers exchanges? I've never seen such carelessness in packaging before for a digipack release.

I got three Criterion blu-rays this week:
![]() This would be my first time watching Elevator to the Gallows but it sounds like a great noir thriller. Can’t wait to check it out. And of course the other two classics. It sounds like TSOTL has finally gotten the restoration it deserves and I’m excited to check it out and see the improvement over the very mediocre older blu-ray. |

If you ask me, 2018 is shaping up to be Criterion's best year in a real long time.
The Breakfast Club, Silence of the Lambs, Night of the Living Dead, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, Midnight Cowboy and the impending Princess Bride, Female Trouble, Polyester and True Stories all getting Criterion blus (with Mishima being an upgrade from DVD). Here's hoping even more cool titles either return to the collection after many years of being absent (David Cronenberg's Crash, in particular), receive blu-ray upgrades of dated DVD releases (Equinox, Fiend Without a Face, Jigoku and Onibaba) or make their debut in the collection (David Lynch's Lost Highway & The Elephant Man, Pink Floyd: The Wall, David Cronenberg's M. Butterfly and that rumored Godzilla Showa Era box set would all make an already excellent year even more legendary). |

I have all my box sets lumped together alphabetically, and then all my individual films alphabetically. And then a database which stores all my titles and where they are, so it's super easy to find things. Just went through last night and reorganised my shelf so my films are at the bottom instead of the top, which makes it easier to shelve new ones as they come in. Previously I also had to shuffle down my TV shows, sports sets, NBA, NFL, NBL and AFL games, and wrestling. Don't buy as much of the other stuff anymore, so I've moved them to the top shelf. |
