I'm looking forward to upgrading The Virgin Spring. Maybe we'll get Alphaville and Pandora's Box on blu-ray one day.

Still nothing from Harold Lloyd? Great use of the Lloyd catalog, Criterion. (Yes, you can go ahead and set your clocks).

With that said, there is nothing in the June announcements that I'll prob. purchase, but my thanks goes to the Criterion Collection for continuing to release important films.
His other documentaries may be considered better but none were as high profile and culturally significant and relevant today. What you said as well as the cultural significance of the shooting and the film at the time was probably what made them include it in the collection.

MITCOTN is pretty grim, but thankfully does not steer towards poverty porn. At the very least its an insight into Filipino life/cinema, something that doesn't really travel well beyond its shores.

Definitely in for "El Sur", "Female Trouble", and "The Virgin Spring". "El Sur" is an amazing film, was close to importing the BFI disc but I'll hold off for the Criterion.

Incredible month! I would be purchasing all five except that I already own the BFI blu-ray of El Sur, which I haven't watched yet.

Guess I know what I'm watching tonight!

I am most intrigued by Manila in the Claws of Light.

I am drawn to the films produced in the late 1960's through mid-1970's, not just in the U.S. but around the world.

Almost all of them capture a unique, cinematic vibe.

Yeah, that's the way I feel about it. But I've never seen El Sur, so I'll have to remedy that.

On another note, that cover for Female Trouble is absolutely magnificent. When Criterion gets it right, they really get it right.

Not an exciting month for me, except for The Virgin Spring which I have been waiting and waiting for. That is a lock for the July sale at B&N. More Bergman is always a cause for celebration. It'll be interesting to watch it not so far removed from The Last House on the Left, which I'll revisit with Arrow's upcoming edition.

I'll probably check the others out somehow before considering a purchase. Never seen a Moore doc and with what's happening right now I'd like to sample Bowling for Columbine. If anyone wants to watch a devastating portrait of the aftermath of one of these shootings, focusing on the families of the victims and their coming to terms with the events, check out Newtown on Netflix. I've also been itching to see Tower for quite awhile, which is supposedly streaming there as well.

As for a Bergman box set, with all the titles already out and surely in most fans' collections, releasing a giant set of all his films doesn't seem wise. I wouldn't want to buy that anyway, I like having them separate. But I wouldn't mind repurchasing some if they were reissued with the new restorations, which isn't likely to happen. Hopefully all that hard work is released on Blu-ray somewhere in the world.

The new 2k digital restoration means I can offload the decent but underwhelming BFI Blu ray of El Sur. Also in for the Virgin Spring as I already have Manila via the BFI (which uses the same restoration) and don’t care for John Waters personally.

None of the announcements will be immediate buys for me, but maybe I'll upgrade the Bergman (though Spring isn't one of my favorites) or buy the Brocka (who I've only read about) later on. The Erice can be found cheaply in the UK by the BFI, so no reason to bother with Criterion's.

I have been waiting for a The Virgin Spring upgrade for years, and saying I'm ecstatic would be an understatement. I'm unfamiliar with the other titles, though.

I'll pick up the Bergman as a blind-buy, but nothing else for me from this slate of releases.

So the "knight crawling" was for El Sur after all. SO HAPPY about this release. One of my all time favorites...

Nothing for me this month, but that's OK, I'm very behind in my Criterion purchases.

I'm actually reasonably caught up. Well, on buying them, anyway. I'm dreadfully behind on watching them
