Is it just me, or can we only see a very small selection of the Criterion reviews on the first page of this thread?

I miss the way it used to be, when it showed them all. Made it very easy to find a review.

Mod, Scottie is working on getting them all back up eventually.

So I'm technically going through 1,546 entries, not to mention I'm also double checking Criterion's website for each release to see which entries have multiple films. For example: Stanley Kubrick's "The Killing" has "Killer's Kiss" as an extra, but it's not part of the main feature (hence why the release is listed as one entry in the database). I'm going to be spiking these titles out in the OP.

I'm also adding feature-length documentaries to the Master ID database because Criterion has included these documentaries as extras in their release (these won't be linked).

Not to mention, I'm also trying to compile a list of all the Eclipse releases to link in the OP, as well as every single Criterion DVD still in-print for the purposes of identifying potential upgrades.

...and I'm doing all this in my free time.

Boris Eustache, the filmmaker’s son, has the rights to Mother and the Wh**re and he refuses to license it on reasonable terms. Several companies, including Criterion, have made offers in the past.

Boris will be 60 in 2020. We can only hope that one day he will come to the realization that he could die without having made a single penny off his fathers work. That’s our only chance.

I know that some of those were released by Image. Is Image no longer the licensee? I would love, love, love a Criterion release of The Long Good Friday.

I'm still waiting for the site to do a review of I, Daniel Blake. There isn't one at the moment.

The UK set (which also includes Master of the House) is very reasonably priced, if you're region free

That is an amazing boxset loved every minute of it. As far as classic films the UK seems to get a lot of great releases. Though I'm still kicking myself for not ordering the Late Mizoguchi set from MoC when I had the chance.

Ssme. I couldn't really justify the price back when it was available, but in hindsight I could have lived off ramen for a couple months to get it.

Nah, this film has always had a very strong use of blanket color filters/tints.

Are you certain? These specifically look revisionist/current trend as hell (but I never saw the initial release).

Quick question, I'm just curious, but what's with CC blu's being nearly half price on Amazon these days?

There's no review there, only a conservative political rant that I'm assuming ties into the film in some way, but I can't be sure because it conveys almost no information at all about the actual picture.

In Ken Loach's latest film one such poor soul (Dave Johns) becomes aware of the game after he suffers a heart attack and attempts to file for social benefits. All sorts of local entry-level 'referees' then begin bouncing him from one office to another and demand that he does a variety of stupid things to prove to them that he deserves to be helped. Eventually, after he sells all of his valuable belongings so that he can feed himself while his claim is processed, he is allowed to appear in front of the proper committee that would determine his fate, but sadly runs out of time.
Seems like a succinct summary to me, if that is indeed what you're looking for.

I always avoid his reviews except for the info on technical specs.

And that is immediately followed by "It is understandable why Loach has directed yet another film in which he channels his frustration with the manner in which his country treats those that need to be helped the most, but the current state of affairs there is hardly surprising. In fact, there is a great deal of irony in this film because for quite some time now -- think many decades -- it has been crystal clear to plenty of folks that do not share the director's political views that the United Kingdom's socialized welfare system is bound to collapse. Frankly, unless some fundamental changes are made, and very quickly, things are actually going to get a lot uglier there as more and more people begin to discover just how serious the crisis is. (For example, earlier this year the British government-run National Health Service just flat-out canceled 50,000 nonemergency surgeries. And of course, just like in Loach's film, the government also determined what does and does not qualify to be tagged 'nonemergency'. You can read detailed reports about the decision here and here)."

Which neglects to mention that "[the NHS] told hospitals to delay operations ... which reflects growing anxiety among NHS bosses about how difficult this winter may prove, [and] is intended to help hospitals cope with an impending influx of patients being admitted as emergencies due to the colder weather." In other words, a rough winter delaying non-critical procedures for some patients to allow for critical care of others, not the "collapse" of the system (which, yes, is not perfect and could be improved).

Meanwhile, this post, quoting a partisan, official review posted to the main site will probably be deleted from the forums in 3, 2...

(And FWIW, I have no intention of carrying a discussion of the NHS any further than that. Just pointing out that pretending Svet's reviews aren't regularly filled with partisan rants is... willful.)
