Also, how many titles of the above are they actually capable of putting out? I can't keep up with rights and what not as much as some of you here. There's at least 5 Kurosawa DVDs that haven't been upgraded (not counting Eclipse).
Kiarostami's son confirmed that Criterion and mk2 are doing 4k restorations of all of his father's films and he supposedly said at a screening Q&A that a box set of all of them is coming out next year.

As for Kurosawa, I have to think that a release of Dersu Uzala is at the top of the list.

Natural would make a good Criterion BD.

Who else wants Freaks on BD from Criterion besides me so they can retire their old BD and see it look better than ever even have a Halloween release?

Freaks would be awesome, still watch my DVD every so often. Would upgrade in a heartbeat.

Wish they'd also upgrade some more Japanese films - Youth of the Beast, Jigoku, Onibaba, and Kuroneko for starters.

Kuroneko was released on Criterion blu-ray in 2011. The other films would be great, too (Especially Onibaba).

You must be tired of repeating this!

I'd love to see Freaks on blu whether it is through Criterion or the WB archive.

Eh, this thread is messy and long, so people miss things. Plus I think I've only posted it two or three times.

While very similiar, Onibaba absolutely blows away Kuroneko IMO. Amazing film.

For Kurosawa I want Stray Dog simply because I feel it would benefit the most from HD.

Freaks would be a great release as well.

It's not like you're making a bad choice with either one, but I much preferred Kuroneko; thought it was decidedly creepier.

That said, Onibaba appears to be the consensus pick.

Dear Jon Mulvaney:

This year, I've been a very good boy; you know it, I know it. The other boys say that you don't exist... that you're a made-up character. But I believe in you.

Please, all I want this year is this:

1. A fancy robe.

[Show spoiler]

Bringing Up Baby

2. A lion.

[Show spoiler]

The Circus

3. Straws, to share with a pretty girl.

[Show spoiler]

Roman Holiday

4. A guitar.

[Show spoiler]

A Face in the Crowd

5. A pet: a pretty bird.

[Show spoiler]

Andrei Rublev

That would be the best month ever! I believe in you... We believe in you...

I second Onibaba. I also would Stray Dog(which has been a big want for me), The Bad Sleep Well, The Burmese Harp, and Wooden Crosses(even more so after they released Westfront 1918).

Forgot one. A Criterion release of The Human Condition or just some more Tatsuya Nakadai films in the collection in general. Really wish they would take Black River from the eclipse series and release it on a Bluray.

Wow, Bull Durham. Definitely writing on the wall of catalog releases going to labels completely as discs get more niche, but that's exciting if you ask me.

Criterion has produced a new Ozu documentary on their Filmstruck channel. I wonder if it's something that will be added to their Floating Weeds release?

https://vimeo.com/264628606

Quote:
One of cinema’s most sensitive chroniclers of domestic life, Yasujiro Ozu lavished attention not only on the human figures that populate his films but also on the objects that surround them. For In Search of Ozu, an original documentary now playing on the Criterion Channel on FilmStruck, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Daniel Raim took a pilgrimage to Japan to get his own firsthand look at some of these iconic items, among them the bright-red teakettle and the patterned teacups that accent the household of Equinox Flower (1958). The archival treasures on display in Raim’s film, a tribute to Ozu that pays special attention to his vibrant color films, also include artifacts from his sets: the white cotton hat he often wore, the tripod he used to compose his famous low-angle “pillow” shots, and the notebooks in which he meticulously planned his compositions. In the above clip from Raim’s documentary, curator Hidenori Okada of Tokyo’s National Film Center delves into how the master’s attentiveness to visual surfaces grew out of his fondness for graphic design, showing off the director’s handwritten screenplay for Late Autumn (1960), touching on his penchant for hand-lettered titles, and recounting how he personally designed all of the bar signs for one street scene in An Autumn Afternoon (1962).
