What a fantastic movie.

The original Sex, Lies and Videotape cover was superior.

Pick your poison, I guess. The Sony cover looks DNR’ed to death, but the Criterion cover has too much grain.

Be interesting to find out why they wimped out and pulled the initial art-work. I really liked it.

Maybe Soderbergh requested they go with that cover. He seems to be pretty heavily involved in the Criterion editions of his films.

This is fine if it's a lenticular slipcover that'll change to the first design.

At my current rate, I am going to be spending myself into the poor house, and you all will be partially responsible. I saw the buzz regarding the announcement of Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, and decided to push it up in my queue. Well, I finally got around to watching it tonight after taping it from TCM on February 10th, and I enjoyed it tremendously. It’s not the kind of film I typically go for; I find the pretentious social elite of any era makes for a rather tedious two hours in the dark, with some exceptions ( Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons being one). But something about this movie surprised me. Perhaps it’s that I identify so strongly with Newland Archer (Daniel Day-Lewis), having been in a similar position. The smothering effect of societal convention has rarely been so expertly rendered.

I would buy the film simply because Martin Scorsese directed it, and Daniel Day-Lewis starred in it. That I found it so engrossing surprises me, though. It’s so different for Scorsese. Now, I’ve only to decide when to buy it; in July, or October. My to-buy list is growing long, indeed.

Thank you to those of you who spoke so glowingly about it. I don’t know how I missed seeing it all this time.

In his book, he described the new cover image as the key image from the film so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did request the change.

I ask because for some reason, IMDb lists Albert Einstein as "Himself", and their plot description says:

Wikipedia's plot has this paragraph:

So 3 questions:

A) Is that movie Criterion-esque?

B) Can we connect it with the clue at all?

C) Why am I trying to solve this if I'm terrible with these clues and never guessed one?
I think the clue has been nailed as My Brilliant Career but just to give you some closure, I have seen Champagne for Caesar and it's a clever screwballesque comedy with a great comic performance by Vincent Price as a kind of a New Age type business tycoon (decades ahead of his time) who frequently stops conversations dead in their tracks so he can go into a zoned-out trance to fully self-appreciate his own awesome creative genius. The film is amusing, but probably a bit of a trifle for Criterion to consider. NB: a phone call is made to Mr. Einstein in the film, but we never hear his voice -- and the real AE doesn't make an appearance.

Andrei Rublev is now listed on Janus's website.

A Blu-ray should be announced in the near future.

It's almost definitely My Brilliant Career.
I'd love to believe that it a clue for an Albert Brooks (birthname: Einstein) movie, but I can't figure any one that works nearly as well as an answer than "My Brilliant Career".

Janus tweeted that WANDA is coming back to theaters this summer.

This is excellent news, and the disc could be terrific if they do it right. The production of WANDA as well as Loden’s story is fascinating.

The You Must Remember This podcast on Loden is a great place to start if you want your curiosity stroked. I luckily got to see the film on 35mm about two years ago and was a massive discoveryfor me.

I’m not really sure what the problem was with USPS, but this took really long to come. It finally arrived today:

Snow Angels gutted me out when I rented it a decade ago.

Almost everything written by Stewart O'Nan guts me out, though. I wish that somebody would make a movie adaptation of A Prayer for the Dying.
