I like the new design. The Wish List page is way better on the new version. Now if B&N would only redo their website.

That's the opposite of wonderful.

The new site is sleek and wide open (in terms of "wide openness" from a John Ford film).

However, it will take some time to get used to the new redesign, and as Great Owl said, the "Release Dates" should appear on the Coming Soon page. For now, the ones listed at the top are the most recent titles added.

The one thing the new site does extraordinarily well is showcase larger versions of trailers in a carousel-like gallery of clips and videos. I like the "Quick Shop" button so you stay on the page you're scrolling on but want to see a preview of the release.

Also, I'm kind of glad that leaks/phantom pages won't be happening anymore. No more spoilers! Everyone will be guessing from here on!

Overall, good redesign!

New site is clearly optimized for small touch screens and big fat fingers. And thus it became indistinguishable from every other website optimized for small screens and fat fingers. Big background picture and a little text with a 3D effect and near-endless scrolling, screen after screen after screen...

It looks like it's not finished yet. I put a filter on for Format: Blu-ray and A Brief History of Time is not listed even when I loaded all 500+ blu-rays.

That was actually my reaction when I saw it for the first time. Not in some judgmental 'omg, how could they joke about this stuff' sort of way. But yeah, kind of that. Tempered, of course, by the obvious fact that I had the benefit of decades of hindsight.

I can totally understand second thoughts or regrets along those lines.

They lost me at 'new'.

I recently started regularly checking the Powerhouse/Indicator site and every time I go there I think 'ugh, I hate this kind of site design'.

Oh well

I wouldn't say it's optimized for my smartphone (5" display), at least in landscape mode. The website doesn't fit properly on there to navigate at all, and for the menus, I have to actually have the phone in portrait mode to see all the options.

I'm sure tablet use is better though.

Off-topic, but Walmart.com also changed their site design completely today

Shout's site does this too. And I hate it. Give me hard breaks with page numbers anyday.

Yeah, this is a pet peeve of mine, but it's the wave of the future I'm afraid. I much preferred the "next page", "previous page" buttons at the end of the screen. The endless scrolling "feature" is annoying but it also seems to sap my elderly iPhone's battery.

On the plus side, they don't have ads embedded on every scroll. Yet.

Especially when you have a browsing session interrupted for whatever reason. You can go back to page x pretty quickly, going to a certain scroll point could take hours.

Woof. I miss the old site. It wasn't broken. No need to "fix" it.

Browsing titles is a lot worse, and they got rid of "Browse themes" which various movie groupings to explore the collection. Scrolling on a Samsung Galaxy S7, and it's really jerky.

Blimey. Take a perfectly functional and aesthetically agreeable site and change it for change's sake - diminishing the user experience in the process. So many sites seem to fall for it. I suppose on the plus side, if phantom pages have been eliminated, that will stop spoilers (I know some folk enjoyed that game, but I never understood it).

Not sure how I feel about the new website design.

I am ecstatic about the larger images now!

I kind of like it, but I'm sure as I become better accustomed to it, it will feel like a bit much.

I don't do it as much right now, but I've done web design for years. I understand the need for "eye candy"-a company wants to have some wow factor to their site. But I'm a strong proponent of clean design, and easy navigation. All the "flash" in the world is wasted if your customer cannot find what they need or want. I always viewed my work as the one chance to make an impression on a potential customer/client. If they like what they see, and can spend the time they need, comfortably navigating the site and finding what they need, they're likely to come back. If the site provides a bad experience, that customer might never come back. Lost revenue is a big no no. So clean, elegant design is the way to go.

Of course, we're going to put up with a cumbersome design, especially around Flash sale time. For $20 Criterions, we'd put up with the Rapture.

They might still be there. We won't know for a while yet, as the other parts of the site are still being finalized. The designer might have just changed the site's organization tree. Those phantom pages might be found somewhere else.

And we will find them, because we're all a special kind of crazy!
