The new restoration of The Cranes are Flying is up on the Mosfilm Youtube channel in HD as well. Really hope a new Criterion release packed with extras is coming soon. The Letter Never Sent release was pretty much bare-bones.

Looks like a digitally-restored(!!!!!) copy of Bondarchuk's War and Peace is now up on Mosfilm, as well, with the same lack of English subtitles. The restoration looks utterly amazing, at least in comparison with all the shoddy prints that have been in circulation for an eternity. (Ostensibly, the scan was done in 2K.) Hopefully this bodes well for a future US/European Blu-Ray (Criterion?!).

Incidentally, the third part of this film contains the most spectacular battle ever staged before a camera!

I prefer the Jackie Chan's Police Story movies over Russia's movies, because they are in english and China's economy is bigger. Same politics. Jackie Chan is easier to digest .

There are also plugins for Chrome and Firefox that let you sideload your own subs for YouTube videos. Not much to do if they don't match time, but that'll get you started.

If you include a pre-order in your cart, will that also be 50% off if, for example, I place my order on the 3rd? I'm just wondering because I've never included a pre-order during the sale and Dragon Inn doesn't come out until the 10th. If not I can always wait until the 10th.

Agnès Varda's One Sings, the Other Doesn't (1977) is now highlighted on Janus Films' homepage, indicating a future home video release.

They're pushing that new restoration of Andrei Rublev on social media pretty hard right now too!
God am I ever looking forward to that one.

Damn. I just noticed that its for a shorter cut than the dvd. Really hope it'll have both cuts, or at least have the footage from the longer version on the disc.

"Appearing here in Tarkovsky’s preferred 183-minute cut, as well as the version that was originally censored by Soviet authorities, Andrei Rublev is an arresting meditation on art, faith, and endurance, and a powerful reflection on expressive constraints in the director’s own time." - http://www.janusfilms.com/films/1827

It also says 185 minutes under runtime, equaling what the CC DVD has listed here. Looks like we'll have both cuts, from what I can read.

[Edit: Eh, maybe I'm confusing myself? Re-reading it I'm no longer so sure. That first sentence I quoted strikes me as ambiguous now...]

The criterion dvd was the 3 hour and 20 minute version of the film, although the 183 minute cut was indeed allegedly his preferred cut.

From memory of discussion in past B&N 50% threads, if you place a pre-order it won't automatically adjust to the sale price. I could be wrong, as I only ever buy in-store. Hopefully, one of the sale experts will chime in.

B&N haven't said anything yet, but everyone who has said something has said they won't be allowing Australian orders anymore. It doesn't look good.

That sucks. There's always the UK releases I guess, though the selection isn't as big of course.
