The flash sale doesn't last a month like the B&N sale does - it's harder to catch. If B&N ends their sale and someone doesn't pick up the slack, my Criterion buys will tank.

As barriers to entry go that's only marginally more burdensome than needing an internet connection to partake in the sale in the first place

This is so true. Who doesn't browse B&N with both theirs and Amazon's app open to price compare?

Plus international shipping, and it not being a 24-hour whatever's-in-stock-only sale.

Though that has been getting harder and harder to guarantee.

The BN layoffs were specifically full time employees, from what my old co-workers told me. Essentially, they wanted to cut benefits, hours. You know, fill the roster with part-time, entry level employees who get no perks. All of my friends who were laid off were given the option of a demotion in title and pay, and no benefits. To my knowledge, none of the people I know took that offer because thats a major slash for them.

Yes, roll on the next sale. I have a couple of gift cards, too. Should cover my Top 5 wants:

A Matter of Life and Death
Tokyo Story
Watership Down
An Actor's Revenge
Pale Flower

I hope these B&N events do continue, as I really enjoy the "old-school" experience of shopping in-store for physical media.

After much deliberation, I think I finally narrowed down the eight films I'm buying at the B&N sale:

A Matter of Life and Death
The Breakfast Club
The Age of Innocence
The Silence of the Lambs
Elevator to the Gallows
His Girl Friday
The Awful Truth
The Virgin Spring

All of them are blind-buys except for Breakfast and Lambs.

Barry Lyndon
Blood Simple
The Breakfast Club
Female Trouble
Fish Tank
Heaven’s Gate
Insignificance
The Lure
Scanners
The Virgin Suicides

Cant say I really enjoy buying online with B&N. I always buy a good amount during the CC sales but there are always a few blus I have to return for packaging issues. Their return process leaves something to be desired. Maybe Amazon has spoiled me lol

Nothing like Christmas at the Union Square B&N. Its always so festive.

I need to get my crap together and start preparing my sale list. You guys are making me feel like a slacker.

The B&N closest to me no longer has a human working in the music and movies section. There is just a sign advising customers to take merchandise to the front checkout. The side entrance that once opened directly into that section from outside is now locked permanently.

Is this happening chain-wide? Seems like a real shame.

I dread that day when/if it happens. I don't have one here but my daughter has a couple of nice ones near her on the mainland. Those sales are a perfect storm of savings-50% off, plus her membership discount (10%), and a state with no sales tax. She recently asked me "When does the next Criterion sale start?" "How about I postpone your Father's Day present till then?" Love that child!

My local B&N never had a separate entrance, but as for the sign, then yeah, they posted several around 2 months back making it clear to people to go to the front, or Cust. Service.

My big regret now that I no longer get to go to San Diego on business trips is that I never made it to a B&N with a media section during the sale. I would be like a child in a sweet shop. Maybe one year I need to organise a trip to NY for the sale one day... I want it to be like one of those rom-coms with Meg Ryan, running around the streets with the snow falling and the glitter in the shop fronts...

Sweet
I was lucky enough to be in NY during a July B&N sale a couple of years ago. I made sure I had plenty of space in the suitcase before I went & managed to fit about 20 in there.

Seeing as everyone's talking about the B&N sale, here's my picks, if the Australian Government allows it-
-Bowling For Columbine
-Female Trouble
-Night of the Living Dead
-Silence of the Lambs
-Election
-Jabberwocky
-His Girl Friday
-Naked
-Paris, Texas
-Buena Vista Social Club
-The Virgin Suicides, and
-The Breakfast Club.

I save up for most of the year for these sales. Hopefully this won't be the last, I'd be spittin' all over the place if B&N gets blocked by the Aussie Government. If you're not aware of what's happening, look up Aussie GST. Tis a sad year for Aussie collectors.

Lucky. I was in NYC last week and it killed me how I was there outside the sale month/s - just the idea of paying full price makes me want to

I'll put that title in mind for the next sale! It depends if I can get enough money. I'm already planning November's sale! Thinking of getting Persona, Women in Love, Lost in America, Tree of Life and whatever Criterion announces in the upcoming months that catches my eye. Thanks!

I go to a few different B&N on a somewhat regular basis. Out of the four that still have a media section, two are never staffed, although they are apparently supposed to be. One of those two stores will regularly tell me I can take my items to the front registers, if they see me waiting for a cashier.

Does anyone have an opinion on Milos Forman's Loves of a Blonde? My local independent theater is showing it this weekend as part of a Milos Forman series and I noticed it had been released by Criterion on DVD back in the day. Should I go out of my way to catch this? Any hints that it might be getting a Blu-Ray upgrade?
