Shampoo saved a terrible month (if you aren't counting the Bergman announcement, which is the greatest thing they've ever done).

Definitely in for The Naked Prey, and will also pick up a copy of The Princess Bride come sale time.

In for Princess Bride, Ashby and Fassbinder. I'll probably keep the Arrow version of Sisters. Pretty good month!

The picture of the cover art sure looks like it has the texture of a clothbound book.

Arrow used Criterion's master, so, unless Arrow altered the colors, they shouldn't be that different.

Interesting month, but for me the only 2 titles I'd consider are The Princess Bride and Shampoo. I might upgrade my Criterion DVD of The Naked Prey too, but I'm not sure how rewatchable that film is for me (basically its not!).

And they couldn't print that onto paper?

I'm not saying they couldn't. But what makes more sense? Having a paper cover that looks like textured cloth alongside a book that IS textured cloth, or simply having an outer box or some other type of cover in textured cloth with the book and blu-ray case both inside it?

Just when I recover some respect for Criterion with their Bergman box, they have to ruin it again with Shampoo. A deeply superficial and, worst of all, surprising unfunny "comedy".

The whole point of the film is that Beatty's character views everything in a superficial, artificial way. He views these relationships he has with women as being completely surface-level. For him, anything beyond their physical appearance is threatening. He's used to juggling multiple women without being threatened by any of them. It's not really a comedy IMO. It's much more of a character study/drama.

I always get confused with the movies Shampoo and Hairspray. Maybe both films should have been part of a double feature release from Criterion! I'm sure John Waters wouldn't have minded sharing a blu-ray release with Hal Ashby. Of course these are two ridiculously different films even though they share titles that deal with hair. Ha ha.
