It’s one a lot of people don’t own, but I agree. All shot on a 5k budget. You can see the early brilliance of Nolan that’s reflected in all his subsequent Hollywood pictures.

Criterion on the possibility of losing rights to other Costa-Gavras titles, namely State of Siege:

Quote:
I hope this finds you well. We've only lost the rights (unfortunately!) to THE CONFESSION, the other Costa-Gavras titles should be fine. It's available on our website here: https://www.criterion.com/films/28048-state-of-siege

All best,
Jon Mulvaney

Imagine this has been talked about before, but maybe there's an update...

Le petit soldat played on TCM last week or so and opened with the Janus Films logo. And we know Claire Denis was in the closet recently.

So any chance we get both Le petit soldat and Beau travail? I'd love to see these two on blu-ray, makes sense to release sequentially given how connected they are.

They're both endlessly rewarding but Dekalog, definitely.

Dekalog grows deeper and less tedious the better you get to know it.

Go with Dekalog.

I'd re-buy Baby Face on blu day one! I've shown the Forbidden Hollywood to a few friends as an intro to pre-code films.

I notice you have the Network copies of Hitchcock’s Young and Innocent and Sabotage which I know Criterion released on Laserdisc back in the day.

How do those look?

Almost forgot about the B&N sale. Finally picked up Carnival of Souls yesterday. I've only ever seen the extended version, so I'm curious how the theatrical version will be since they couldn't find good elements for the cut footage.

Babyface is one of my favorite movies. It's obviously essential Stanwyck and for good reason, she's absolutely amazing in everyway in this film. Hot, cool, slick, gentle, and sexy. This film is certainly worthy of a Criterion release.

One of my favorite scenes in the film is right at the beginning when Chico is in the kitchen working. That song she sings is deep with emotion. The way she hits the notes with all that soul is captivating. And by this you can certainly tell it is depression era.

Excellent hi-def transfers infinitely superior to the laser discs.

Worth owning if you're region free.

I wish Criterion could put Show Boat (1929 + 1936) and Swing Time (1936) on bluray. The old laser-discs with all their supplements were amazing.

Carnival of Souls is deep with atmosphere and psychological terror. The first time i heard about it was in a Rob Zombie interview back in the 90's. He was talking about his favorite horror films and this was among them. I never did get to see it back then but when Criterion came out with this disc i was all over it.

I never owned the LD, or in fact either film on any other medium. I agree - the Network BD are great.

Yeah, I grew up hearing my dad talk about it over the years. Finally got a chance to see it on TCM about 5-6 years ago and loved it. One of the eeriest films I've seen. Can't wait to finally watch it in HD.

If you haven't seen Polanski's Repulsion definitely check that out too. It makes for an excellent double feature with Carnival of Souls imo. Actually it's even more eerie and surreal.
