That is fine, but it still won't make me watch the cut version. I know what scenes will be missing so I just can't watch it. I would always rather watch a complete version of a film with a lesser transfer, than a cut one with a better transfer.

Sort of. I had Dekalog and The Awful Truth in my cart but was stymied by the fact that they wanted me to re-enter my credit card info and my wallet was in the garage. I had every intention of finishing the order but never quite got around to it.

So I regret being lazy but if history is any guide that will pass.

Sort of. I didn't partake this time around as I have so many BD (Criterion and other) in my unwatched pile that I recently decided to be more disciplined. I've picked up many great titles in 2018, but also quite a few that really are marginal in terms of my reasons for buying, or in replay value.

I suppose I've reached the point that I know some others here have before, where I am trying to hone my collection. No great plans for a major reduction (although I will be selling some), just a stricter focus on buying titles that represent my core interests, and enjoying what I already own.

Not really, I have most of the Criterion titles I want, so I just bought three. But then again, Black Narcissus and Fear and Loathing were not in stock for the flash sale. And I recently bought Kiss Me Deadly on Ebay, Richard III and Midnight Cowboy on Amazon (<$19), and have Some Like It Hot on pre-order there.....................

Is there a reason that Criterion doesn't do DVD bonus discs on Blu-ray releases? I think most labels have done that at one time or another, and certainly when dealing with an alternate cut in SD it seems like a sensible way to go (like "The Last Seduction" disc in the UK, where the alternate cut is VHS sourced). I definitely understand (and even support) the decision to not try and upscale it, but as a consumer who doesn't own that film yet, I'd rather be able to get everything together in one package.

I've been wanting to pick up Wim Wenders' Road Trilogy for over 2 years and somehow forget about it every time there's a sale.

Someone shoot me a reminder next month plz.

I won't attempt to second-guess Criterion's strategy but unlike The Last Seduction, where you're talking some 20 min worth of footage, the difference between the 2 versions of CoS is a total of 5 min. They could have included the whole Director's Cut in SD on the existing BD, but I guess they debated on the pros and cons - they would have had another set of critics wondering why the inserts were not seamlessly branched into the HD restoration - and decided not to.

Criterion has so far never done bonus DVD's with exclusive content on any of their BD releases. I assume it would violate their desire to streamline and not cause any confusion for their customers as to whether they would be missing out on anything by giving away the DVD discs. Hell, they compulsorily region lock all their BD releases so their customer does not have to wonder if a blu-ray will play for them or not.

As mentioned, I also got my order today too. I was shocked but happy that I received it so quickly. Just got done watching the first Zaitochi film earlier today and loved it. Probably will watch a couple this weekend.

You're going to love them. Starting with the third film they are all in color. I was concerned at first that this would somehow weaken the storyline, but it doesn't. All of the films are great, but some are better than others. I've watched the entire collection at least two are three times. It's fantastic. IMHO, the best movie franchise ever.

I know that this is not a Criterion announcement, but it's a film-lover's announcement. Look what is coming to blu-ray in exactly one month, courtesy of Warner Archive:

A) That is fantastic news.

B) It's kind of a Criterion announcement. Given the Warner gems they've been able to get their mitts on it's kind of relevant when we can cross one off our Criterion lists. I don't know about anybody else but my WAC wishlist is basically a subset of my Criterion wishlist these days.

Don't worry. The Barnes and Noble half-price sale is right around the corner and it's a month long.

Got my movies today after ordering late afternoon Tuesday. Very happy to have six films to distract me from the Brewers choking away a chance to go to the World Series tonight.
