I meant do they start at midnight? Or does it take a while for the prices to come into effect? I've always ordered usually at 3 AM on the first day of the sale when the prices seem to all be 50% off by then.

Price changes usually take affect between midnight and 3AM EST.

Think I'm gonna pick up The Princess Bride, Thief, and The Big Chill tomorrow morning... Zatoichi boxset next payday with Repo Man.

My B&N membership expires on November 28, which means I can pick up the Bergman set and Some Like It Hot. I'm not going to renew as I am reassessing my collecting at the moment, including fewer blind buys - which have always represented the bulk of my Criterion purchasing from B&N.

Also, I've lost interest in doing business with B&N. It's nothing to do with the coupon issue; I just don't really enjoy it anymore. The media sections are all a shambles these days, and there are other customer service issues. In future, I'll be happy to pay low $20's for an essential title on Amazon, or to buy direct during the flash sales.

Only getting one at the B&N sale. Thoughts on Night and the City (saw it on TCM and liked it) or Ride the Pink Horse (blind buy)?

Ride the Pink Horse is very good... a kind of odd noir in an interesting setting. But it's not as good as Night and the City.

I'm picking up the Bergman set, for sure, as well as The Princess Bride.

I'm keeping my True Stories pre-order on Amazon as it was more than half off.

Agreed, both are very good but I'd say Night and the City is just flat out better

I have little doubt that it’s a good picture, but these days I’m trying to limit my blind buys to films that will have strong replay value over the long run.

...it’s why I passed on I, Daniel Blake during the last sale.
I loved Dheepan. I love all Auidard's movies. Like his others, he plays with genre and gets fantastic nuggets of raw performance from his actors. I think it holds up to multiple viewings. Many thought it over hyped and thought it's Cannes win was an anomaly, but don't believe the hype. It's neither the fish-out-of-water-immigrant-tale, or the loner-revenge-movie. Auidard's movies are too flushed out for such simple categories.

Why did B&N stop EU deliveries .. I still have my card and address for UK on account but I just get:

Sorry, we could not process your order at this time because your PayPal account was not authorized. [WS call DoExpressCheckoutPayment failed]

When making purchase grrr.

Managed to get it to work with debit card, kept asking for a US billing address but it let me select an existing address woo

I'm really trying to instill restraint this time around, so Jabberwocky & My Man Godfrey for now. I'll be getting Magnificent Ambersons too.

I say go for it.

After finally giving up on ever getting a Blu-ray release of The Thing From Another World, I broke down and bought the dvd of TTFAW over the summer, only for the Blu-ray to be announced two months later. Not that I'm complaining...

Did anyone see the Detour restoration trailer from Janus? Good lord, this is night and day from what I'm used to. Can't wait.

Ordered the Bergman Collection from B&N and canceled my Amazon pre-order. While I'm fairly certain that Amazon will eventually price match I took the certain savings over the possible savings. Sooner or later I will also pick up Andrei Rublev during the sale. That will probably be the extent of my participation.

my opinion is the opposite. Ride the Pink Horse has some unique things going for it when it comes to film noir which, for me, made it more interesting than Night and The City. I expressed my opinion some time on this thread a few years ago about N&TC.. I think I had a problem w/ Widmark's character. ..and Gene Tierney just isn't Gene Tierney in this film.
