Night and the City: it’s pulpy, it’s “late night” movie-ish… both qualities one would expect from a film-noir. This one, however, also felt cheap and compared to Dassin’s Rififi, this film has the quality of a B-side track. Gene Tierney is wasted in a role that just requires her to be a stereotypical film-noir “dame.” Richard Widmark’s Fabian really needs to be punched in the face,
[Show spoiler]so those of you who have seen it can understand why I enjoyed the end when he gets dumped in the river.
I’ve only seen Widmark a few times. I think I prefer him more as a good guy. N&TC isn’t terrible, but it isn’t as good as Kazan’s Panic in the Streets (another noir in which Widmark stars,) either.
here are my thoughts from Jan 2015. I haven't returned to it since then.

Any word on the rumored Godzilla box series? Would think might not get any info until next year when the new film drops.

I placed my order for the Bergman set as soon as the 50% off came into place this morning(around 130 AM I believe). Also sticking with my Amazon preorder of Some Like it Hot. Barring some change, this will probably be it for my Criterion buying until February minus the January releases(Notorious and In The Heat of the Night).

That is beautiful. I also can not wait for this gem to finally be released. After seeing this on the premiere of Noir Alley I was blown away by this film.

I need Modern Times, The Great Dictator, Monsieur Verdoux(I've yet to watch this one, IDK why), and Limelight to finish my Chaplin Criterion releases. Then I need to get the Flicker Alley Essenay and Keystone sets.

Modern Times was fantastic! I can’t wait for The Great Dictator to arrive so I can finally finish it. I rented it from NetflixDVD back in September, and the disc started locking up with 20mins left in the film. Turns out there was a nice little crack toward the outer layer of the disc. Looking foward to finishing it soon. I still need to see the others.....Limelight, Monsiuer Verdoux, The Kid, etc.

I just got an email from Criterion and it mentioned that Ken Russel’s The Devils is currently streaming on FilmStruck. Can someone who has FilmStruck say if it’s in HD and what the run time is?

I don't know if it is HD but it is the cut version. I watched it a few weeks ago and it doesn't have either the Rape of Christ or bone masturbation scene.

I went with SISTERS, A RAISIN IN THE SUN, and SOMETHING WILD (1961).

The Blu-ray/DVD room no longer has a "dedicated" employee back there on a full-time basis. I mention this, because SISTERS was not in the racks. I called for an employee who had to search through a few boxes to find SISTERS.

If you're looking for a specific title and don't see it, ask for help. Often, merchandise is stored in "Receiving" until somebody requests a specific title.

Went to my local B&N and picked up the following:

Like a dummy I accidentally got the DVD of Midnight Cowboy instead of the BD (which I later learned was OoS anyways) and I didn’t realize it until after I opened it up. But after checking out the disc I was happy enough with the quality, so I shall be keeping it.

Day one and done. Decided on this over Ride the Pink Horse since I'm only getting one this sale and didn't want to take a chance on a blind buy.

Hey if that is the only one you get in the Sale, you are batting 1.000. Great film.
