it is clever advertising. If the release a title now on DVD which you actually need, chances are you'll buy it now. in case you simply enjoy the name, odds are right that a few years down the road, whilst it receives the blu-ray remedy (which, oddly sufficient, is the same remedy they give their DVDs) you will purchase it once more. for this reason, the "double-dip".
Frustating for us creditors, in all likelihood now not noticed with the aid of "Joe Public". Heck, I bet if you ask 10 random human beings on the road what the Criterion series is, you'd be hard-pressed to find 1 who knows.
Why would you respond to a comment from 2009?

Anyone seen Something Wild, the Carroll Baker version? Thinking about picking it up.

Sue Lyon? Do you mean the Carroll Baker version from 1961?

Yeah. No idea why I wrote Sue Lyon.

The way it's going to happen, the First National Shorts will be bonus features on the "Chaplin Revue" release, which is the 1950s recut of several of the First National Shorts. The only way that Chaplin estate will approve the release is if they use the "Revue" version, because that's what they own the rights to (same with the recut "The Kid", as well as "Modern Times" and "Limelight" being affected to an extent).

I would advise against a blind buy on that one. The first half is terrific, the second half leaves a lot open for debate to say the least. Baker does give a great performance but I think Garfein mishandled Meeker and his storyline but that's just me, I've been meaning to give it a rewatch to see if I soften on it the second time through.

I won't disagree with that assessment. The sexual politics do seem off-putting in this day and age.

If you happen to admire vintage New York films, this one has many haunting images of iconic cityscapes, some famous and some forgotten.

Thanks. Maybe I’ll see it out elsewhere and not blind buy.

usual reason -- it's a bot. New poster, necroposts something from 2009 here and 2012 in the Criterion thread lifting a post verbatim .

Reading the answer it obviously written in the early days of Criterion

Once it's does it anohter 8 times then we'll get a bunch or Torrent Post, nekkid Asian Girls sites, Get rich quick schemes and Cheap Boner pills, or given the user name -- porn site links.

Google the user name and it appears to have registered in a half dozen random forums today doing the same thing

The giveaway -- copied post 16 and 19 in this thread Page 1 both from zedd_117 (last post 2011), but the quoted post was after the answer. Did the same in the 5000 post Scream thread with the same MO

Another giveaway is the wrong-sounding English. "Frustrating for us creditors" has probably been mangled by some machine translator. I'm guessing it should be "collectors." - and the missing link between those two may be something like "debt collector" or "collection agency."

The original zedd-117 wrote that years ago and he definitely wasn't a bot -- had almost 1000 posts before leaving.

Both the quoted post and the answer were lifted directly from teh front page and put together as a Q/A. The bot didn't actually write anything -- he quoted post 19 and put post 16 as the answer to -- both from zedd-117.

I forget whose posts it lifted in the Scream thread but identical process -- 2 posts from Page 1 of a 7 year old 60000 post thread with post 18 answering post 20 (2 different posters in that thread). I'm shocked the mods haven't deleted them

nice sale at B&N
ended up getting:
Breakfast Club (not sure the transfer really looks much different, but it does have some other stuff that seems to be new and for the sale price, went for it)

The Lure

Vampyr

Election (quick peak shows more grain, overall more natural colors and more detail than on prior release)

The Princess Bride (the transfer is surprisingly considerably better than the old one, which wasn't even a bad one, this has a bit more grain but more importantly noticeably more detail, I mean really noticeably more as much as blu-ray can possibly deliver and not just that the colors are better, they seem more like the recent theatrical re-release and just looking at her dress alone, it went from faded orange on the old disc to rich orange red like it should be on the new disc and a lot of colors on fine details come out better like grass that was almost all green on the old one now you clearly see some blades are yellow and some green, etc. sure we really should be getting UHDs for titles like this and Edward Scissorhands and so on and so forth that already have new, 4k masters ready, I was gonna just wait, but decided to go or it at the sale price and it really is a quite noticeable upgrade even just with a new blu-ray)

I had a fun experience picking up some Criterions today. I was trying to find The Princess Bride, which was in stock at my store, but it was not on any displays. After waiting about 10 minutes for the manager to come, and he said that someone from corporate was supposed to come in and set up the new layout for the media section (it's been slimmed down since the summer sale). I and one of the workers had to look through a bunch of shipping boxes to find it, which took a few minutes. This was after I went to Target where the Incredibles 2 exclusive wasn't even put out on the floor, so this took things to another level! My haul today:

A Matter of Life and Death
The Night of the Hunter
The Princess Bride
Rebecca
Rififi
The Tree of Life

The media department in my local B&N today. The wall display is one of two areas for Criterion. It's been roped off for employee stock sorting for some time now. What a mess.

Does B+N have any good coupons right now that can be used in conjunction with the sale?

No coupons (good, bad, or middle of the road) appear to be working for the Criterions much last the last 3-4 sales. Well, there is probably one, but it's a one time use New Member 5Off50 transaction coupon and nobody has even reported it working yet.

All the Criterions I;ve looked at specifically have the "This item is currently not eligible for coupon offers." attached. There are always some local managers who do allow some/many/all, but those are few and far between anc can even be a Customer to Customer deal.

I've been to several "local" B&Ns recently, and so far only one is different. They moved out of the media section they used to have to a few rows out among the books, near the eating area. Didn't like the rather awkward change, but since I rarely go there any more unless I'm out of other local options, not too big a deal.

But... every once in a while they did come through (like for one of the most stubborn cardboard titles during the last sale that I'd all but given up on, Mishima), although mostly that was before they started making room for LPs...

Some of the others have a kind of abandoned look/feel, so hard to tell when/where the next one will happen. There was only one other in recent years that got changed and that was just last year.

That's essentially what my local store looked like a few weeks ago. Thankfully they had the decency to have it cleaned up and reset before the sale. Pretty idiotic timing on your store's part. If your B&N is anything like mine, the Criterion area is barely ever shopped through unless it's July or November.

Where is that store? Looks quite a bit like one I go to. Not much to go off in the picture but looks like the layout.
