Sadly, my brother's friend was there and made us turn it off halfway through because he used to live in Salo, Italy and very drunkenly claimed the film was literally Satanic and that watching it was dangerous (he had never seen it before). -_- I think my brother's wife wants to throw it away now. Just a bizarre story, but now I'm definitely curious enough to want to finish the film.
I happen to think it is totally worth hanging onto. Simultaneously one of the greatest films ever made and one of the hardest to watch. I loved it, but it totally ruined my night.

I'm looking for some Blu-ray Special Edition stickers that come on the packaging for Criterion Releases. If you are willing to send me some hit me up with a PM. Let's just say it's my OCD.

I was hoping for some Godzilla releases, or a box set this Christmas - since it would have been a great time for marketing. Very disappointed.

Next year, on the heels of a brand-new Godzilla film, will be a more perfect time for marketing. I'd be shocked if we don't get a box set announcement in 2019.

Yes, I see your point - but I don't consider the American made ones true. In fact the new one looks like it stole from All Monsters Attack, with the monsters being connected to the earth/spirits and such.

Hopefully they don't wait till the next Toho proposed film.

Criterion might not consider the Americanized Godzillas "true" either. Still, the name recognition alone will boost their sales potential, so I doubt they'd complain. I also really doubt they'd wait for a new Toho movie (I wasn't even following, are they making a a new one?). I don't think they'd snag quite as many customers or interest if they did.

Considering they've released the Bergman and Olympics sets late in previous years, I'd guesstimate October - December '19 for a Godzilla box. October would make sense to further cash in on Halloween (aka monster movie season) season.

Yes Toho announced that they were developing a new "Universe" of Godzilla films. The next would not be a sequel to Shin Godzilla either. They probably want to create something akin to a Marvel Universe.

Done watching the bonus features of Sisters, Just those features alone were well worth the 5 bucks I spend on this BD! Amazing time-travel back to 1970s!

R.I.P. to Bernardo Bertolucci

Say what you will about the guy's character, but there's no denying he had a significant impact on the medium.

The Dreamers was the first film I’ve seen by him. Oddly, it made me “realize” my sexuality, such an interesting way since it’s not a gay film.

The Dreamers is my favorite film by him. One of the absolute bests of the 2000s.

Well, if Eva Green didn't get your blood running, that might have told you something right there

lol, The Dreamers was a blind-buy for me years ago. i've since lost the DVD so i haven't seen it in years, probably only watched it the one time. the only thing i can really say that i remember about the film is that it had a great soundtrack, except for a song or 2 from the Doors' "Morrison Hotel," which was released 2 years after the film takes place. yup, it's like that...

I’m waiting in this with bard breath on this as well. At the best I’m expecting Criterion to release most of their Godzilla catalog during the King of the Monsters movie. Toho is happy with the MonsterVerse and this is when it will be the most active in the American public’s mind. From what I hear, they do intend to release their catalog physically. There’s even hope they’ll sublicense the ones they don’t own the rights to so they can release as much as possible. Maybe even those Sony ones caught in dvd hell.

I’d also expect other companies that own similar genre films to try and cash in on the Godzilla hype.

Seems more like GMK than All Monsters Attack, I don't see any talking Minyas

Went to my local B&N looking for a lucky Bergman set score a few days ago, they said there was a line out of the section for the Bergman set on release day and that only the first 10 people got one. I guess the local film nerd scene here out in the boonies is larger than I thought it was.

Not quite sure what to make of this one.

Is this really a great picture with a profoundly enigmatic story?

Or a pretentious art film masquerading as something deeper and more meaningful than it really is?

...I’m not sure.
Last year or so I watched Funny Games, Cache, and Code Unknown very close together. Code Unknown, while I thought was great, still left me the coldest. I liked Funny Games very much and thought Cache was excellent.

I found myself asking if it really was saying anything or if I was just naively giving Haneke the benefit of the doubt (Amour is one of my favourites of all time). I think I am confident in the brilliance of the shot composition, but the rest is a bit uncertain for me still.

Yeah, I second that I don't think Criterion considered them true either. Also, I would love to use this picture if a Godzilla set were to get a November release

I e-mailed Palm Pictures about the possibility of a Millennium Mambo Blu-ray release and received this response.

Unfortunately, we have licensed this title from the original source and there are no plans to release this title in HD physically or digitally.
