Right. Eclair is just as notorious as Ritrovata for their botched color-gradings. L'argent, Fantastic Planet, Muriel, or The Time of Return, and The Sacrifice (Remastered), for example, all exhibit similar characteristics. So this notion that people are making these accusations based upon memory is wrong. It's based upon this particular restoration group's track record of similarly graded masters. The skepticism is warranted.

And are people still questioning 2001's colors? There was concern over the trailer's colors (and rightfully so), but since the disc was released (w/ different color-grading than the trailer's) I thought people have unanimously praised the color-grading.

Surprised not many people are posting about Sisters. I felt that both this transfer and bonus features were top notch!

The 4K Ran by studio canal is perfect and has a very similar grade to the criterion and fixed all the issues of the previous release. I hope with the new deal we get the same release from criterion or something similar.

No, it has not.

The Criterion DVD isn't as teal as the 4K Blu-ray.

Criterion also released the Complete Jacques Tati and the Complete Jean Vigo sets.

Come on Criterion: Akira Kurosawa's Cinema, Spine #1000.

Yes, it does. Specifically the grading is VERY similar some of the greens are more natural in the 4K. This release is more similar than there previous release in 2006. I own both Criterion and 4K resto. I have compared them myself and its is a very well done restoration.

There's that one shot in the tunnel several people are convinced should be white despite ample evidence to the contrary.

Only a small, insignificant number of posters were complaining. There was hardly any concern or uproar over that.

The grades between the 4K restoration and the Criterion are very similar if you go to DVD Beaver you can clearly see multiple examples of the closest restoration comparisons. The colors are very very similar the 4k image is a little cooler. But you are also comparing screen caps at drastically different resolutions as well.

Again you can keep linking SPECIFIC screen captures to prove your point but I can physically make a comparison. Which is quit different than what you are attempting and far more accurate.

Yeah, the "fade" controversy is much bigger.

I have all the discs myself, so I'll test them out and see. I also saw the restoration on the big screen, and it wasn't all that similar to the Criterion DVD. There's definitely a stronger, if not blanketed teal/green tint on the new restoration. The Criterion DVD has more naturalistic and balanced tones, though it perhaps leans a little more red than it should (which plagues many DVD's).

How would differing resolutions change the colour grade?

They're wildly different, dude. Seriously.

Criterion

A complete Kurosawa set seems do-able. There's only a few films Criterion would need to acquire. 2K or 4K transfers are available for some of them and others may need new transfers.

Dersu Uzala
Dodes'ka-den
Dreams - 4K used for Blu-ray
Drunken Angel
High and Low
I Live in Fear
Ikiru - 4K used for Blu-ray
Kagemusha
Maadadayo
No Regrets for Our Youth
One Wonderful Sundday
Ran - 4K restoration (Éclair)
Rashomon
Red Beard - restored in 2015 (4K ?)
Rhapsody in August (MGM?)
Sanjuro
Sanshiro Sugata
Sanshiro Sugata, Part two
Scandal
Seven Samurai - 4K restoration available (Toho)
Song of the Horse (?)
Stray Dog
The Bad Sleep Well
The Hidden Fortress - 2K used for Blu-ray
The Idiot
The Lower Depths
The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail
The Most Beautiful
The Quiet Duel (Films sans Frontières ?)
Those Who Make Tomorrow
Throne of Blood - 2K used for Blu-ray
Uma (Toho?)
Yojimbo

I didn't say the resolution would change the color grade. Besides we're arguing opinions not facts. The opinion was out of ALL the current English releases the 4K restoration is the closest in picture quality and grading to the criterion. I never claimed it was the same.
