Oh nice. I was just thinking I should have added some Yimou Zhang films on my wishlist. I'd gladly blind-buy the stuff I haven't seen yet--otherwise I'd root for remastered, extras-heavy editions for Hero or House of Flying Daggers.

And maybe his latest film, Shadow, would be possible. Can't wait to check that one out one way or another.

One man's masterpiece is another man's disasterpiece...

Seriously, I'd take a BD release of True Lies from Criterion any day - or any other label for that matter. Just somebody, please.

And Roman Holiday.

Oddly enough, True Lies is available to stream in HD for free on - of all places - The Roku Channel.

The Roku Channel and nowhere else.

A shame. I hear you. I would love to see Prospero's Books done by Criterion

I wonder if Criterion will get Blue Velvet since they have other David Lynch films. It’s also an MGM catalog title, so I’m sure it’s available to license if they want it. The old Blu-ray is cheap, but I’m thinking I should hold out.

It's always possible, the film was remastered years ago for the 30th anniversary, but for what it's worth the old MGM Blu still looks pretty solid considering its age (at least to me). For the price it's at right now, it wouldn't be too much for a double dip should a new disc comes out.

I was playing into the previous comments regarding how "reprehensible" Michael Moore is. But I was playing the devil's advocate and wasn't intentionally trying to hurt anyone's feelings here on this forum. I actually like many of Moore's films, and if I wasn't a fan of his, I wouldn't have taken that photo of him. I suppose my intended sarcasm was of poor taste and completely misunderstood (so i'll take the loss). If you want to take this to PM, please feel free to send me a message instead of lashing out. I'm not trying to grandstand here either.

I'll try not to take this personally but I think the political correctness these days and especially the prioritization of politics over everything else has gotten out of hand. I agree that celebrities shouldn't be vilified no matter how flawed they may be. "Fat shaming" is a deadly thing indeed and so is bullying.

This, along with Brute Force, should be coming out soon. I got tired of waiting for the upgrades so I bought both dvds recently.......that usually guarantees a release, right?

Those two, along with the David Lean Dickens films are some of my most wanted upgrades. I'd also like BD editions of la Strada and Juliet of the Spirits. Finally, The Rocking Horse Winner would be a nice addition to the CC.

Not sure if it deserves the Criterion treatment, but it's definitely an underrated film. Much cleverer than people give it credit for, and you can tell that the director comes from an artistic background.

Another thing to consider is Greenaway's current status in film. His reputation isn't what it was in the 80's and 90's, and he was far more popular in Europe than he ever was in the US, yet there aren't too many releases over there either, at least not on blu-ray. There are a couple available, but the transfers are questionable and certainly don't showcase the visual brilliance of the films themselves. e.g Baby of Macon and Drowning By Numbers.

In short, the demand just isn't there, or at least not presumed to be.

Having said that, a few of his films are definitely worth of inclusion in the CC, but I'm just skeptical that it will happen. I could be completely wrong of course.

I agree. Greenaway is definitely a director worthy of multiple Criterion releases.

The only film of his I have on BD is the BFI release of The Belly of an Architect, which is very good.
