I'm holding out hope for the John Wayne version as well. Criterion is such a disappointment.

Thanks.
I suppose I should say they're "supposedly" doing that since it's not officially announced, but all signs point to it happening.

That means I better sell my OOP blu-ray of Chungking Express now, before it loses value, huh.

I'm sensing a box set imo. Any news if the title In The Mood For Love has been remastered?

I like this as a Freaky Friday kind of switch:

Blood Simple w/ Mitchum & The Night of the Hunter w/ Walsh
The Piano Teacher w/ Denreuve & Belle de Jour w/ Huppert
Paths of Glory w/ Mifune & High and Low w/ Douglas
Thief w/ Delon & Le Samourai w/ Caan
8 ½ w/ Scheider & All That Jazz w/ Mastroianni
It Happened One Night w/ McCrea, Lake & Sullivan’s Travels w/ Gable, Colbert
Design for Living w/ Moreau, Werner, Serre & Jules and Jim w/ March, Cooper, Hopkins
Persona w/ Duvall, Spacek & 3 Women w/ Watts, Harring & Mulholland Dr. w/ Andersson, Ullmann

Was thinking of switching Charade with Harold and Maude, but it seemed cruel.

(Expect a lot of 'more relevant than ever' comments in reviews and discussions)

It's a fantastic film and in its own ways every bit as good as Network (and just about anything else, for that matter).
Good to know! Thank You both!

Ritrovata had mentioned a 4K restoration was coming soon late 2017:

Is this another "I've never seen or heard of it, therefore disappointing" situations? Because I don't see how anyone who's a fan of film would say this list (which isn't even complete) is a disappointing start to the year. Like, what are you expecting??
Must we always do this? I love this forum and Criterion in general, but I swear I find it exhausting at times. Why must you assume that I've never seen or heard of these films? Like I said, I'm glad for the people that enjoy these but they just don't do it for me. Here's my breakdown of some of these films:
- I'm excited and plan on buying Detour, Notorious and A Face in the Crowd.
- The Kid Brother: I know I'll get crucified for this, but I just don't like silent films. I've tried many times watching a variety of titles, But I can't seem to enjoy them for what they are. Visually they're quite impressive but that's it. I do feel guilty for rejecting more than a decade of film history, but it is what it is.
- In The Heat of the Night:The characterizations are deep and fleshed-out, and this is only enhanced by the two great lead performances, but I found myself wanting a bit more meat on the actual story. The whodunit mystery lacks real interest, and I wanted something more engaging and intriguing for these characters to do. I also found myself perplexed by the solution at the end - far too confusing a mystery to be an effective one. This may seem like a contradiction, but what I really wanted was a meaningful, layered story, not a twisted, confounding one.
- La Vérité: Far from the best of Clouzot but of considerable interest nevertheless for giving Bardot her best part. It's got an outstanding cast, and yet it often feels rather common-place. For once, he doesn't build any suspense and you never really care what happens to Bardot. In the end it's the personality of the victim, that proves to be the film's point of interest, though at 130 minutes it tends to drag.

The 4K remaster of In the Mood for Love premiered at the Lyons Lumière Festival in 2017.

Does this mean about Criterion going with the new format then? Will they be supporting all 3 or is it just a higher hi-def on BD compared to the one they published before?

No. A 4K remaster does not mean that UHD releases are in the works. There has been zero indication of Criterion (or any of the other boutique labels) going UHD, at least as far as I'm aware.

That's kind of a blessing since I really don't want to start rebuying in yet another format. I made a pact with myself that I'd only get 4K discs on new releases or old titles I'd never picked up. Naturally, I recently broke that rule by getting 2001. I knew I wouldn't stay strong.

Kino Lorber actually has a mystery UHD title set to be announced at some point this year.

Two, actually. One for the Spring and Summer with the possibility of the Dollars Trilogy in the Fall I’d sales of these two titles sell good.

I did the same thing and I have as many upgrades as new films.

Upgraded 2001, all eight Harry Potter films, The Prestige, Inception, and the Dark Knight trilogy.

Newly purchased Deadpool, Fantastic Beasts, The Revenant, Close Encounters, Interstellar, Dunkirk, the Blade Runners, the John Wicks, Spider-Man Homecoming and the Raimi trilogy, and the second Jack Reacher.

Although in fairness I've only made three upgrade purchases: The Potters, 2001, and the Nolan set (which included two films I didn't own). But SPR is on my wishlist as well, and I'm sure there are plenty of upgrades that aren't even out yet.

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting any of the titles announced this month, but as is so often the case, I find that I'm intrigued by the choices, nonetheless.

One of the things I love most about the Criterion Collection is the illumination it provides. Not only does their lovingly curated library offer the best possible releases for so many of the films I already have a great affinity for, but they introduce me to films and artists I might otherwise never have considered. They continually broaden my horizons, and in doing so, I find they make me a better, more empathetic person. I truly believe that film as an artistic medium can narrow the divide between people by allowing the viewer complete immersion in different cultures. Knowledge is a tremendous tool in combating fear and ignorance.
