I can't remember what the error was but Cohen rereleased it with a 4K remaster that is better than the criterion but it was misframed. They did a replacement for it but I guess the replacement is still misframed along with brightness and/or color timing issues I believe. It's been a problematic title on blu ray.

Philadelphia has the same effect on me. Not the film, the actual place.

He's probably the nicest, most polite person currently on YouTube. He always takes the time to respond to comments too.

Very impressive. At on point I was intent on doing something similar, but I got tired of trying to find items in good shape since not many people shipped LD correctly and 1/2 of them were damaged in transit from Ebay sellers. It was especially difficult trying to extract information on those titles with multiple releases like the first several titles. I ended up with around 200 Criterion disc -- about 120 which were bought after DVD took over and people were sort of clearing out titles. Most of them weren't super cheap even then

It appears he uses Ikea Billy bookcases for many of his BD's in double Rows to save space from the background of the Video.
I haven't looked, but I wonder what he stores his LD's in. The Billy's really aren't deep enough esp for those boxsets unless he wants 2-3 inches sometimes hanging off the edge. I did find some other Videos with what appear to be non IKEA 15-16 inch shelves -- shiny so I think they're metal

LD's are the same size as a vinyl record, right? I use this guy: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20275885/ for my records and it has some extra room so they aren't hanging

Depends. Some of them are essentially that same size, the boxsets can be be both taller and deeper depending on the release.

The IKEA Bestas 15 inch might work thought I'm not sure the actual shelf could hold the weight of a fully loaded 2+ foot width ao you;d have used smaller width units

I'd forgotten about the Kallax Shelves which certainly would work for the standard discs anyway -- if each shelf is 13in high that would work, but LD are significant heavier than LP's, but 12-13 inches per shelf might be reasonable. They have a shinier surface so that could be what Daisuke was using and the holes I can see on the side panels in his video seem to be similar so I'm betting that's what he using there.

12-13 inch width Laserdisc would be around 50 lbs which is certainly above the recommended 30lb per shelf on the IKEA sit

A quick search suggests a LD is about 1/2lb. I think I keep about 50 lps on each shelf, so that would be about 25lbs plus the packaging. And looking at this video:
Those look like my shelf with the same headroom, except mine is black.

A single disc release would be around 10 oz depending on whether it was thin cardboard of thicker stock/bifold, but anything much more than 1:45 would often have 2 discs so a lot of single movies would be 20-22+ oz.

Just avoid the UK Blu (also from Cohen) which doesn’t have the Criterion extras. The Wandering Company had an individual UK DVD release so it’s still accessible.

The film made me cry a lot but I feel that with every film that tackles AIDS. I was a mess after Can You Ever Forgive Me?; I think especially being a part of the LGBTQIA community makes it even more resonant when you either know people who are HIV positive, or many of the actors and and writers and filmmaking talents you look up to were lost, and feeling like it was such recent ‘history’ and still has effects in the present - there’s been a shift but there also hasn’t.

Also I concur that Daisuke is fantastic, always very informative and makes me want to track down some laserdisc titles maybe at some point in the future.

I started collecting CC a couple months ago. So I’m not quite up on all their releases and announcements. Was wondering if Peeping Tom or Zodiac are in the plans?

I've been slowly working my way through the BBS set, I'd only seen Five Easy Pieces before (a few times). When I got the set I put on Head and thought it was fun, if not slightly flawed. Certainly a nice start and I plan to rewatch it.

Following shortly was Easy Rider, perhaps it was the years of hearing about it and having it on my list (and my enjoyment of Five from the get go -I always associated them together) but I felt mostly underwhelmed. Still I could understand how it fit into the overall picture at the time.

Drive, He Said for whatever reason could not grab me, I turned it off about midway, tried again the next day and still...nothing. After this I shelved the set for a few months.

Dusting it off I put on The King of Marvin Gardens. Wow!! I loved it, possibly even more than Five. Perhaps I just burned myself out on the set (and American New Wave in general) and needed a break, or maybe Drive just doesn't resonate like the others, but now I'm excited, again, to see The Last Picture Show and A Safe Place for the first time.

Of course I'll need to watch Five shortly after, as I've only seen it in classes or streaming so far... and then I'll revisit Drive. Hopefully it'll click then...
