Question Bringing up baby

I read somewhere that BRINGING UP BABY (1938) was eventually going to be a Criterion release. I don't know whether or not this is legit information.

Yeah, I read years ago (I believe it was in the HTF) that Criterion had Freaks and a release was imminent. I think that rumor is about 10 years old now but I may be mistaken. I still find it curious that WAC hasn't put it out (I much prefer Criterion does it with new extras). Does anyone here know what the longest time is for a title that they put out that they had the rights to? Other rumored titles I am interested in are Winchester '73 and The incredible Shrinking Man (I have the U.K. release but would love a Criterion with different extras)....

[Show spoiler]When he breaks that guys prized record and smashes the dudes fingers in the drawer...I mean c'mon!
Plus it is one of the few times you actually see an actual C1 Corvette in a film. This one is a must own as far as I am concerned. Love it, love it, love it.
Absolutely. Even the whole Manhattan Project (Trinity Nuclear Test) on July 16 1945 that was referenced in Kiss Me Deadly, and how that exact Nuclear test was illustrated in Twin Peaks Season 3 Episode 8 to great effect.

Unfortunately that means I only have 9 days, so I need to get on that.

But I want you to enjoy it, and if you’re having to rush through the experience, it will start to feel like work after a while. There are so many characters, a good number of families, and a whole history of Westeros to absorb, not to mention going all the way back to the first men.

If you start now, and watch it religiously (without overdoing it), you can watch the final few episodes with everybody as they happen. If you watched three hours a day (doable with some discipline), you could be caught up by episode three. If you spread it out by one more week, you can watch the final three episodes in real time. IMDb has the air dates for all the episodes. Plan your schedule according to what you feel comfortable with.
I've never watched Game of Thrones either, and I was planning in the past year to binge watch all the seasons up until now in time for the final season... but I obviously procrastinated and put it off and now its just a week or so until the final episodes air.

My plan is to just binge watch the whole show this Summer and not worry if i didn't get to watch the latest episodes live when they were released.

I did the same thing with Breaking Bad, and actually didn't see the whole show until 3 years after it ended! I quite enjoyed it too, even though it was long over!

I watched "Mildred Pierce" for the first time since I saw it in a film class in college about 11 or 12 years ago. It is even better than I remembered. The masterful Michael Curtiz seamlessly blends elements of noir and melodrama and adds a layer of complexity to a fairly straightforward story. Joan Crawford was never better, Ann Blyth is terrific as her monster of a daughter, and Zachary Scott oozes slimy charm as Crawford's love interest. The film is way ahead of its time in terms of the plight of Crawford's character and it's certainly one of the richer female characterizations of that time period. It's one of the best films of the 1940s IMO.

Mildred Pierce is exquisite. At the end when Mildred
[Show spoiler]catches the two
, the way Scott's character moves out of the shadow into the light is absolutely sublime. And Ann Blythe is a magnificent femme fatale, and gorgeous to boot.

I blind bought the Criterion thinking I probably wouldn't like it even though I'm a Joan Crawford fan (I'm blown away by her in everything I watch of hers, even the cheesy stuff... she ALWAYS gave it her all) because for some reason I always thought is was one of those weepy melodramas which I don't really like unless they are super campy. Mildred Pierce is a truly great movie. I was really surprised how good it was and how it holds up today. In fact, I think it is one of those "timeless" films. Fifty years from now it will still have fans....

It really is a phenomenal film, I was shocked at how much I loved it. As you said it is pretty straight forward but I have no reservations about saying it is one of the greatest films I have ever seen

It was a blind buy for me as well, I agree that it is timeless. It tells a great story and the acting is spot on

I'm at the beginning of the second season now. Pretty intense. And fun. I'm definitely looking forward to that episode now, though. I don't know about this "sensitive" thing. But I will admit that I do cry pretty easily at movies and TV shows.

I had an elderly lady pat me on the shoulder and tell me "everything will be alright" at the end of Demme's "Philadelphia" when I saw it in the theater. That's how hard I was sobbing. It sucks...

That being said, Rains of Castamere...even folks who read the damn book weren't quite ready for it. Put your big boy pants on for that one.

Telling him the specific episode title pretty much guarantees he’s gonna know something bad’ll happen guys.

I'm of the opinion that Lloyd never made a good 'talky'. Not even one. Some of them had decent scenes, but there isn't a single one I'd recommend overall.

I'd like to see Criterion release more of his silents like Girl Shy and For Heaven's Sake, but I'm not holding out. I feel lucky to have 4 on blu.

Movie Crazy is great, but Welcome Danger and Feet First are dire. I do think The Cat's Paw is at least interesting and I'll defend The Sin of Harold Diddlebock, too.

It's been a while since CC has released a remake double bill (I wanna say The Killers). The obvious choice is Floating Weeds, but the Hands of Orlac/Mad Love would be awesome. Mad Love features some pretty gnarly imagery and Lorre at his creepy best. I can't get some of those images out of my head since seeing it last week on TCM. The "mechanical man" reveal in particular would be a stunner in HD.

What is the deal with the release of Criterion's Howards End? I recently watched that and enjoyed it since I got Room With A View earlier and love that as well. I enjoyed the bonus content on that and was searching for Howards End. I came across there was a production error or something is this true?
