I did enjoy reading why he likes the movies he chose. The words he used were very succinct. His experience with Do The Right Thing with the end question of “How many films have ever been able to do that?” is the question to ask of a significant film. His words also got me interested in Rififi, The In-Laws, heck all the movies I haven’t seen yet.

I have got to say, I'm kind of in the mood to watch The Last Temptation of Christ on this Easter Sunday. Might be the most appropriate/timely Criterion film to watch today. Anyone else here love this movie as much as me too?
It's still one of my favorite Scorsese films (of all the ones he's made).

So I recently finally got down to watching Orson Welles' The Trial . Without a doubt that this is IMO, Welles best work. It was the most terrifying film I may ever seen. It's an Orwellian nightmare. The locations used in the film add even more to the nightmare. I can't possibly say that I still grasp everything that I've seen and it will probably take multiple viewings before I do. Hopefully the newer restored version will be released on BluRay

Not that I have any shortage of unseen films, but the night before last I was re-watching Anatomy of a Murder, probably for the 5th or 6th time. And damned if, like every other time, it didn't go down like smooth bourbon. Along with Seven Samurai, it is one of the films so beautifully paced in its writing and editing, it seems a lot shorter than it actually is. Highly recommended to just about anybody.

I just love the implication that it isn't jw007's absolute favourite Scorsese film, but the ones they rank above it haven't been made yet.

That movie has a little bit of everything, and all of it great, but it's the Duke Ellington that puts it over the top for me every time.

No spoilers, but based on what you said previously, you're going to want to be caught up by next Sunday.

Re The Searchers, would rather see that get a UHD from Warner (along with a remastered blu), the large scale photography almost begs for it and HDR could also add a lot to the plentiful daylight exterior scenes.

And yes I too wish for more of the Sony/Columbia Almodovar titles via Criterion, it’s criminal we don’t yet have All About My Mother and Talk to Her on English friendly blu rays.

Did it open with a Criterion or Janus logo?

Doesn't Seven Samurai have a portion ( prior to the intermission ) that kind of drags, like some other Kurosawa?

I know that it's a StudioCanal owned title. I was just asking if it had a Criterion/Janus logo since KL Insider said that it went to a different company.

I don't think there is one wasted frame in Seven Samurai.
