I've been looking out for a good price on this out of print title for awhile now. A seller on Amazon UK had a used copy for $23. I went ahead purchased it. If Criterion does eventually release it that would be great too.

In three months "Japan" can be enjoyed in Blu-Ray format and will be part of the classics of world cinema. There is also an arrangement for the rest of his films to be gradually added to the catalog of the US company, such as Batalla en el cielo (2005), Luz silenciosa (2007) and Post Tenebras Lux (2012).

Chaplin created/wrote the music for Smile but the lyrics were added years later by others. My favorite version of the song is sung by Nat King Cole.

I was thinking of First National. That's where they have The Pilgrim, Sunnyside, and Shoulder Arms. They're not really shorts, though, more like featurettes.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that an upgrade to blu is planned for the Keystone shorts, but I have no idea what sort of time frame we're talking about. Could be years, I suppose.

I would like to see Criterion release Drugstore Cowboy. I just watch it for the first time and loved it. It feels like a movie right up their alley.

They did say once, in passing, that they were working on a multi-year project to do the Keystones in Blu. That was at least two years ago. (There may have been additional comments since, of course, but nothing I've heard, so it hasn't gotten any traction.) Understandably, since they still have DVD sets to sell, they haven't commented much on it, but it seems very likely to happen someday.

No, it is a Toei title. Arrow has released a number of their films, so they would be the ones to ask.

Has Criterion released an Toei film? This sounds like something Arrow would release.
