I hope they are forever. I've had a nightmare where I find out that Blu-rays are programmed to self-destruct on the day I retire.

I think it will definitely decrease my "blind buys", but I've already added a few titles to my "want list" from watching on the Criterion Channel. We'll see what happens.

and Detour.
I almost bought Detour yesterday but I figured I will wait and give B&N the extra $. It will be a sad day for me when/if they stop doing these sales....
If you get Fox Movie Channel, The Innocents is showing on June 15th at 12:15 PM CT.

Has anybody found out what's going on with the Dr. Strangelove blu-ray? It's still listed as unavailable, though the DVD is. So, it's not a matter of their losing the license. But it's taking an awfully long time to get it back in stock.

I have the original digibook blu-ray release (still unopened), but I'm wanting to get the Criterion this B&N sale.

I couldn't believe Detour was so cheap. $18.66 including tax with free delivery. I had to jump on that. One less to buy at the upcoming sale.

I love the Ballad of Gregorio Cortez. Blind-rented & then bought it at the next sale. It's been praised for it's historical accuracy. I think they shot in many of the same location the events took place at. I'm not too familiar with the other movies you mention outside of First Blood. I'd say it's like an art-house historical chase movi. Pure independent cinema. Lots of handheld style & natural light, probably 16mm. Existential themes. Great cast of independent character actors.

Working on a list for the next sale. Want to pare it down to 8-10. So far it looks like this:

King of the Hill
The Phantom Carriage
My Dinner with Andre
My Beautiful Launderette
Dreams
The Apu Trilogy
Weekend (Godard)
Good Morning
La Promesse
Kess
Tampopo

The Phantom Carriage - visually great - you can see why Bergman likes this movie - but dramatically cliched and IMO a bit of a slog
My Dinner with Andre
My Beautiful Launderette - Meh, I thought, when I saw it on TV in the 90's. DDL is great, though.
Dreams
The Apu Trilogy

Weekend (Godard)
Good Morning - I normally like Ozu a lot, but this outright comedy didn't appeal to me as much.
La Promesse
Kess
Tampopo
Tastes can differ but the ones I bolded were essentials for me. I'm not a big fan of kitchen sink realism movies, to point out a bias.

Hey thanks! I appreciate the insight It might also depend on what I can find in person first. I like to get to the stores and hunt a bit. Not quite as much fun ordering online. I'm also a fan of the Eclipse series so I may throw one of those in and subtract something else...

I prefer the DigiBook on this one: same transfer, better presentation.

Looks like we could be seeing a UHD Sony release of Devil’s Backbone here soon.

Clock is ticking Criterion.

Also, The Age of Innocence and It Happened One Night.

There's no reason Criterion can't send out a similar survey.

I have a feeling that Wings of Desire will be the first announced UHD.

What makes you say that Scottie? I know that the film was restored quite awhile ago (and even released in Germany in an un-English friendly disc). I'd love to see some more B&W on the format.
