What about years? I have many on my wishlist that I get during the sale but not all at once.

Not this year. Too many distractions/problems have hindered me. But I will catch up, by Jove.

I've got my list ready.
Notorious
Police Story
Blue Velvet
The Kid Brother
And 3 films I have never seen but I am buying on the recommendations of people in this thread....
The Innocents
Kiss Me Deadly
and Detour.
I almost bought Detour yesterday but I figured I will wait and give B&N the extra $. It will be a sad day for me when/if they stop doing these sales....

To be perfectly honest, I've only watched a small percentage of the titles I bought during the last sale.

What does that have to do with Collecting Criterions?

Detour was #1 on my B&N list but I had to jump at the current (cheaper) price. This is THE film noir and I can't wait to finally replace my Image DVD.

Got a ton of stuff though that I plan on grabbing, almost all upgrades. I'm debating on whether or not to renew my membership for this...usually it pays for itself in 1 or 2 sales, but with the future of the chain looker bleaker than ever, I'm having doubts.

Can anybody sell me on The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez? Sounds sort of like another take on the Lonely Are the Brave/Chato's Land/First Blood formula. Does it offer plenty of adventure, or is it more of a historical drama?

I really hope Detour stays at that price until next Monday when I'll be able to buy it. That would make one less to buy during the B&N sale (although who am I kidding, I'll probably buy another one).

Just says exactly the same thing.

I'm trying to narrow down 50+ titles to a reasonable haul.
If I had more money 50 would be my reasonable haul

With the existence of the Criterion Channel, will you guys be buying less now during the 50% off sale?

Titles come and go from streaming, Blu-rays are forever. So probably not. I don't really blind-buy many Criterions, though.

Here in the VA suburbs outside DC, it's Funko Pop dolls and toys taking up space that should be filled by books. My closest B&N still has a healthy Criterion selection, but very few Arrow, Kino, or Warner Archive titles.

I went ahead and ordered Detour from Amazon, and I still have more titles to purchase from B&N. I really miss the days when Costco carried 50% Criterions on the regular.

My shopping list so far:
Hedwig & the Angry Inch
A Face in the Crowd
Blue Velvet
Klute
The Apu Trilogy
Do the Right Thing

Unfortunately Ochazuke isn't available until August--it's one of Ozu's best.

The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez is more arthouse western if I remember correctly. Irregardless, I watched it in the middle of a months long western binge that included the likes of High Noon, Red River, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Stagecoach, Django, Sartana and a bunch of other spaghetti westerns and remember thinking it was in the top tier. I haven't seen the three you listed so I can't comment on them...
