It was available on the first morning of the sale on B&N's site. I was browsing around and saw it in the bestseller section.

I saw that this thread was on my news feed on my ATT android phone. It's really weird since it doesn't happen to anything else.

If I go with the Bergman collection, will I miss out on anything from the individual releases?

The Criterion Channel is helping me save on those films I want to watch but don't need to own forever.

3 Women didn't receive a single Oscar nomination. Duvall and Spacek received major awards elsewhere, but Oscar skipped them and the film entirely. Another example of why I shrug when people say how unfair the Oscar's are now.

Seriously? I thought both were really powerful and great in that movie.

^ Yeah, go figure. I don't get too bent out of shape over any of that, but it's just another of those glaring omissions that kind of stick out. And there have been a lot of them. I will say, it was always tough sledding in the 70s.

Lest we forget that VERTIGO, sometimes ranked as "The Greatest Film Of All Time," didn't receive a single nomination. Hitchcock himself once said the Oscars are "doorstops" and I've never had a single reason to doubt him.

Sorry, but it received two - for Art Direction and Sound.

I found My Dinner With Andre to be compelling. But then I think I was probably a good aim demographic-wise.

Yeah, it wasn't nominated for any of the top awards (Pic, Director, Writing etc). I'd never attempt to deny that the Academy has overlooked many of the greatest and most influential films of all time. I mean, they gave John Ford 4 Oscars but didn't nominate The Searchers for anything, for crying out loud!

That's because, outside of the cinematography, The Searchers isn't that good of a movie... #hottake

Anyone can chime in and say that a great movie was snubbed at an awards ceremony because they didn't think it was that good. Hardly shocking. So long as you're aware that yours is a minority opinion, who cares?

The Oscars often simply reflect the prevailing attitudes of the times. Vertigo was not a huge critical success at the time it was released, it’s only in hindsight that it seems egregious that it was largely snubbed.

Went bonkers on the previous Criterion sale a few months back, so kept it humble this time around.

I do find it ironic that The Searches 1956 has what I would call Landscape Cinematography on a large scale.

And so does Lawrence of Arabia 1962, but he gets an Academy Award for Best. Along with other British titles. Even 1966 The Good The Bad The Ugly gets more recognition 10 years later. I don't mind if you say it has a better story but the Cinematography is copied and completely unoriginal. It's still beautiful.

John Ford doesn't crack Top 10 according to this list.

And it's doubling funny how NCFOM 2004 wins also for doing the same shots to0. Like 50 years later LOL. Wins Best Oscar. I like all these movies though, just liek I like The Revenant 2015 although it's obviously a rip off of Tarkovskys Stalker 1979 in terms of Cinematography.

You might as well give credit where credit is originally due. Miyagawa. John Ford. Kubrick. Tarkovsky. etc. and call out the Posers and rip offs where they obviously copied. Always stay alert for who did what first. Cinematography, Audio/Sound/Mixing, Acting, Script, other techniques etc. I always felt Cinematography was obvious, but apparently not.

What's the current list of OOP titles? I mean the ones recently added to the list?

Top 10 Cinematographers of All Time - YouTube
Probably because John Ford wasn't a cinematographer. He was a director. Winton C. Hoch was the cinematographer for The Searchers.
