That Kiorastami Retrospective is 2.066m long!

I don't know how I'd do this, but I would have mine booked BEFORE Day One!

This is basically all that my B&N has left. Though they are extremely lacking as far as Arrow releases(almost nothing), and the CD's they have are more "bargain bin" stuff rather than specialty. They do have plenty of Criterion and Vinyl.

The Criterion section is approximately half of the entire movie section, which they have reduced to 1 isle - with an additional sale bin full of Criterions and end cap type display for new releases. Without those Criterions they truly might as well not even bother, and I know those Criterion's only sell during sales due to B&N's crazy policy of pricing everything at MSRP.

There is nearly a full isle of Vinyl, with the end of the vinyl section used to sell the few Criterion and movie box sets they have (and probably some other larger music sets as well).

Effectively the entire media section has been whittled down into 2 isles which they put off to the side of the information desk. Unfortunately it isn't exactly "re-imagined", it seems like they hardly put thought into it at all.

I mean, if they require entire isles for their media sections they must be doing pretty well.

In case there's any misunderstanding, the retrospective runtime is just the total runtime for all his films, documentaries, and shorts included in the retrospective.

Regarding B&N, we (as in us in this forum) tend to be in a bubble with regard to the media section. I live in upstate New York, just outside Albany, and I grew up on Long Island, which I still visit frequently. The B&N near my house always has people in it, with the media section (which is still a pretty decent size compared to what i hear from others) being mostly empty. The big one on Long Island was relatively packed and it was a Wednesday afternoon when I went. It's very rare that I'm not waiting on a long line when it comes checkout time. I know these are higher populated areas, but just wanted to point out that everyone is always buying books, rather than Criterion, Vinyl, or even Pop Vinyl.

Also, if #1000 ends up being a single movie, I'd be all for The Other Side of the Wind. I have Netflix, but I would love a great physical release of it, with the documentary.

Dipped my toe in the Criterion pool for the first time in a while. Picked up the following:

1. Notorious
2. Blow Out
3. Blow-Up
4. Blue Velvet
5. Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
6. Elevator to the Gallows

I'm not a foreign film buff by any means, so I had not heard of the last two up until a few weeks ago while listening an older episode of the 'Just the Discs' podcasts. Wife is out of town this weekend, so I'll have a lot of time to dig into these.

All excellent films. Those last two are like icing on the cake of your pick-ups. I hope you enjoy them.

I’d like to see Roma get a blu-Ray from Criterion. It really needs a physical release.

Hey, been a while since I've posted.

So is it true that in about 3 days (Monday, the 15th), we're going to receive spine # 1000 (amongst the October announcements)?

This might be the most exciting event in Criterion history.

Is B&N good about restocking during the sale? Trying to get the Merchant of Four Seasons for at least a week & a half lol went to Amazon to see if they price matched it and they are out of stock too. Its a good film but its not even top 25 for me lolol

IIRC, wasn't Roma rumored along with Blue Velvet? I can't find the post with my super quick search, but I believe someone visited Criterion and said they were working on BV and Roma, and as we all know BV panned out.

I would love to pick it up if it gets a release.
