I'm going to toss in my monthly wishing well request for an upgrade to The Horse's Mouth. Just watched it again recently, and it's really one of Sir Alec's best - which is truly saying something.

My foreign film collection isn't very big so I haven't really been paying much attention to things like aspect ratios - until now. I just noticed that Diamonds of the Night, from 1964, was shot 1.37:1. Was widescreen not a thing in Europe at the time?

It was, but the regular full aperture ratio was still common, especially in Eastern Europe, throughout the sixties and into the seventies.

Crossing my fingers for the Godzilla announcement; been waiting so long. Plus I can get saving when I have an idea of the price!

Several Criterion BR on sale (20% off on top of the 50% off) at Amazon for Prime Day, including Seven Samurai, Bergman Collection, and the Before Trilogy.

I'm not too concerned about the Kurosawa titles because I'd bet a set happens at some point. Ozu has to be quite high on that list as well. |

The 20% is on top of Amazon matching B&N's 50% off, so it's an eevn better deal. For $19.99 title at B&N, they're $22.97 at Amazon, so with the extra discount, they come down to $18.37 (before taxes). It's an even better deal for anything $25 and over since Amazon hasn't factor in B&N's shipping price into it. So for instance the Ingrid Bergman Cinema set comes down to $119.99 before taxes.

Also, for example, if you click on any of the titles in the Late Ozu box, you will see an expected ship date. (Fortunately for me, I managed to snag one of these during the current B&N 50% Sale.) ![]() |

Ozu's Floating Weeds DVD set is currently unavailable too. I'm going to still hold out hope that that means it's being re-released on BD soon,

Godzilla 1954/King of the Monsters, Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro-Monster, Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, All Monsters Attack, Godzilla vs Megalon, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, and Terror of Mechagodzilla. Non-Godzilla films are Rodan and War of the Gargantuas. It's also believed Criterion has Godzilla vs the Sea Monster, Godzilla vs Hedorah, and Godzilla vs Gigan. The only other Godzilla film from the Showa era missing would be King Kong vs Godzilla, which is believed to be no problem for Criterion to license from Universal. |

You do realize Armageddon, another shitty Michael Bay movie, and Robocop were put out by this same company, right?
