I'm going to toss in my monthly wishing well request for an upgrade to The Horse's Mouth. Just watched it again recently, and it's really one of Sir Alec's best - which is truly saying something.

My foreign film collection isn't very big so I haven't really been paying much attention to things like aspect ratios - until now. I just noticed that Diamonds of the Night, from 1964, was shot 1.37:1. Was widescreen not a thing in Europe at the time?

It was, but the regular full aperture ratio was still common, especially in Eastern Europe, throughout the sixties and into the seventies.

Crossing my fingers for the Godzilla announcement; been waiting so long. Plus I can get saving when I have an idea of the price!

Yeah, $11.24 per movie! I can't see it getting lower than that in the future.

I apologize if this has been mentioned already but it looks like a few Eclipse Boxes are currently unavailable: Late Ozu, Postwar Kurosawa, and Pearls of the Czech New Wave. Upgrades Coming?

Several Criterion BR on sale (20% off on top of the 50% off) at Amazon for Prime Day, including Seven Samurai, Bergman Collection, and the Before Trilogy.

But they're still 50% off at Barnes and Noble...

I'd like to know what's going on with them too. Two of the ones I wanted (11 and 12) last flash sale were listed as "unavailable" from very early in the sale. One came back after the sale and I thought about paying full price but before I could go back and order it, it wasn't back to unavailable. The other one has been "unavailable" for the entire time. My email asking if they were permanently OOP went unanswered. I believe they all might be on the channel though, so at least I can watch them.

I'm not too concerned about the Kurosawa titles because I'd bet a set happens at some point. Ozu has to be quite high on that list as well.

The 20% is on top of Amazon matching B&N's 50% off, so it's an eevn better deal. For $19.99 title at B&N, they're $22.97 at Amazon, so with the extra discount, they come down to $18.37 (before taxes). It's an even better deal for anything $25 and over since Amazon hasn't factor in B&N's shipping price into it. So for instance the Ingrid Bergman Cinema set comes down to $119.99 before taxes.

Several people have previously mentioned that 'Currently Unavailable' only mean out of stock, not OOP.

Also, for example, if you click on any of the titles in the Late Ozu box, you will see an expected ship date. (Fortunately for me, I managed to snag one of these during the current B&N 50% Sale.)

Ozu's Floating Weeds DVD set is currently unavailable too. I'm going to still hold out hope that that means it's being re-released on BD soon,

I don't know. I'm thinking that Criterion will announce WILDLIFE. It's an IFC title and it deserves a physical release in the U.S.

Does anyone have a full list of Godzilla films that would be in a box set?

Nothing's been confirmed yet, but the Godzilla films currently on Criterion's streaming site are
Godzilla 1954/King of the Monsters, Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro-Monster, Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, All Monsters Attack, Godzilla vs Megalon, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, and Terror of Mechagodzilla. Non-Godzilla films are Rodan and War of the Gargantuas.
It's also believed Criterion has Godzilla vs the Sea Monster, Godzilla vs Hedorah, and Godzilla vs Gigan.
The only other Godzilla film from the Showa era missing would be King Kong vs Godzilla, which is believed to be no problem for Criterion to license from Universal.

Bring on the Godzilla box set. This would be pretty unprecedented in North America to have an entire Showa set. I believe there have been sets before but usually just 2-7 films. Not all of them.

You do realize Armageddon, another shitty Michael Bay movie, and Robocop were put out by this same company, right?
