Finally got around to watching House for the first time. Really enjoyed it. Very weird film, but in a good way.

Love the 50% off sale. Just got back from my local B&N

I got:

Bottle Rocket (plastic case)
Chungking Express (digi)
Seven Samurai
Yojimbo/Sanjuro two pack

My Own Private Idaho (DVD)

Really wanted Black Orpheus and House but they were sold out of the Blu's

I think next weekend I'll pick up; Charade, Breathless, and The Leopard (blind buy). I want El Norte but the digi was all banged up and I didnt want to deal with the hassle of getting a replacement.

There are about a million Criterion DVDs I wanted but I was good at restraining myself.

from what I've read about this film would I be right to assume that if I don't like horror movies I will definitely not enjoy it?

I'm furious at Criterion releasing Videodrome on Blu-Ray, I paid too much for the DVD last Christmas. SCREW YOU!

It's hard to say really. It's not a "horror" film in the traditional sense. Nothing about the film really made me jump. I'd recommend watching it on Net Flix to decide.

Sell it before next year's July sale and then pick it up on blu ray. You'll make out ok.

well the closest to horror I enjoy is stuff like Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland and even then they have moments that make me jump

I'm like Columbus in Zombieland, a total wuss

Even still. Hausu is way more comedy than anything. There isn't anything scary in it to speak of. It f-ing rocks.

the problem isn't finding info. the prob. is finding useful info, hence the point of threads like this one, otherwise i don't see what the point of Criterion thread is for? to gloat about how much you own?

Many of the films that Criterion releases are 20+ years old and there have been many articles, reviews, and essays written about said films. It would only take a little extra effort on your part to type in a film's title on Google, or any other preferred search engine, to find the information you seek.

Your last sentence makes it sound as if your only resource for movie reviews is blu-ray.com. If that is the case, then that is part of the problem. I suggest seeking out multiple sites for differing opinions. At your age, I'm sure that you're now able to read the quick synopsis of a film and make an informed decision of whether, or not, you might like it.

I applaud the efforts of users like Beard Esquire who can, and will, write a lengthy personal analysis of a film. When it comes down to it, though, I don't see how reading a forum user's opinion of a film versus reading all of the other countless reviews available on the internet and written since a particular film's release date, which is sometimes 50+ years ago, is any different. Wherein lies the difference for you, Jedi?

LOL. Check out my collection. According to the new stat tool I have 112 thriller Blu-Rays and 70 horror titles. Out of my collection over 62% of the films are either rated R or unrated.

I'm rather new to CC, though I've gone hog wild during the last 2 B&N sales.

Pardon my ignorance but I saw this cover on IMDB and was curious if RAN was a CC title released on blu ray? I thought it was only released by CC on DVD. I don't see it listed on this site as a CC title.

well StudioCanal tends to pale in comparison to Criterion, just look at The Third Man

I have no doubt that if Criterion had put out Ran on blu-ray it would have been far superior

Another Blu-ray for "Chasing Amy"??? I don't know...if they can make the PQ better than this last previous Blu-ray release, possibly. I mean even the press conference with the cast reunion, at first it was all fun to listen to but the stupid questions from the audience really drag everything down and looked like the cast were getting pissed off.

EDIT: Just re-read the post about Smith mentioning in early 2009. If I recall, Criterion was not interested in doing a Blu-ray for "Chasing Amy" and thus it was released in the "Kevin Smith Collection" in Nov. 2009.

I've just had my first (hopefully only) cancellation, Paris, Texas, and it still appears on their website as "Usually ships in 24 hours". Ah well, back to the wishlist it goes.
I was surprised to see my items shipped separately instead of by order. So far, I only have received "von sternberg" and "Eclipse Series 1: Early Bergman"...none of the rest.

I would love to see this movie get the Criterion treatment it rightly deserves...

I wonder if Criterion is considering handling the sales of the complete Metropolis once it is done being restored?

Also I want my The Rock and Armageddon on Criterion Blu-Ray!

Gahh just over a week till Modern Times will be mine for $20. I'm so excited for this release, one of my top ten favorite films. I've never seen Night of the Hunter, but what I've heard about it sounds awesome. Worth a blind buy?
