First world problem, third world problem, whatever. It's actually a luxury problem and it's ok to want what we want. Getting all twisted up over it is useless though, even though we do sometimes.

Toho's booth at SDCC has a screen playing Godzilla clips, so far all the images I've seen are clips from the films Criterion has. Getting more likely that there's a connection. Delay probably is Toho's fault. NECA was also supposed to show new Godzilla figures tonight too but the display only has boxes and blank cards right now.

Would a Godzilla set have its own spine number? Godzilla is already in the collection with a spine number of its own, so surely it'd be a Bergman-like situation?

And regardless of whether it has a spine number or not, where's the rest of the announcements? Why are they being held up just because of issues with Godzilla?

Are we only getting a numberless box set this month, followed by spine 1000 in November?

Surely something else is going on here.

who cares about the spine numbers? that is literally the least important thing about any criterion release. it ultimately means nothing. it's just something lame dweebs want to wax poetic about.

Is there some running joke going on regarding Klute?

They are probably hell to work with, and Criterion is doing their best.
I don't understand why Toho has to be this difficult. If they were more flexible we would be able to get more extras plus every possible English dub and version included.

While I (greatly) expect for English dubs/versions to be included, we may only get what Toho wants Criterion to include.

Re: the Klute jokes, I believe it’s simply because people are anticipating the announcements so much but Criterion keeps posting about Klute a lot on Twitter instead.

And I'm not interested in half of the movies Criterion puts out, what's your point?

If Criterion hasn't made any announcements for other releases, then October is probably ONLY Godzilla movies. After all, if they manage to release a 14 movie box set, that's all they need for a single month.

I think they cater to a certain type of movie-goer.

I'm not even slightly interested in the upcoming Godzilla collection, either, but so what? Surely there will be enough announcements to please more than just one type of cinephile.

Word is they are working on Now, Voyager from 1942 with Bette Davis. I'd shell out the cash for that choice.

Oh yeah a few others I'd like to get treatment: The Day of The Locust(1974), Getting Straight(1970), The Crazy World of Julius Vrooder(1974), Darby O'Gill and the Little People(1959), Fireball 500(1966)……...hmm

I see people here want a lot of popular stuff like Citizen Kane, Gone with The Wind, Scorcese, and etc. Besides After Hours, a lot of these already have perfect good blu-ray transfers. Wong-kar Wai has a few I might pick up(it's been hinted they are considering his stuff?).

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if some of us Criterion collectors are a bit self-entitled, as in "we expect" a special treatment or privilege from what we've come to see from a certain establishment or entity. I think this entitlement issue is a wakeup call in that anything crazy could occur, sort of like that brief blackout in NYC that occurred on Saturday (I'd like to think the Criterion HQ has had a power outage the last few days which can explain the delay, but that's wishful thinking). I think it would be healthier to "expect NOTHING" as each month rolls by, because then anything that does happen will be a wonderful and pleasant happenstance.

The Olympic set did have a spine number though and Tokyo Olympiad already had a spine number.

I wish you would come up with something better then these one word or short negative answers. Express yourself. Even if I'm agreeing with you or against you it makes me cringe. I also think it's just a number, the first four digit even one. But I understand it's fun too speculate and hope all who are doing so are enjoying themselves.

I agree. My facetiousness got the better of me. It'll probably be something I'll end up not buying. lol. Critics like more movies than I do. If they like 3 out of 10 I'm more like 1 out of 100. On average I like about 1 out of 10 Criterion releases which shows you how good of a company they are for me.
