People on here are acting like this is some massive corporate failure, when all that happened was a delay on announcements. Not on the releases themselves, just the *announcements*, which most buyers don't likely hold their breath for every 30 days. The line-up is solid, 2 long-overdue upgrades and 2 additions that should fit in with the collection nicely, and it's easy to assume that spine #1000 had some unforeseeable issue and the company wanted to hold back until everything was perfectly in place, which is entirely reasonable. This is only a big deal because us obsessive collectors made it a big deal.

If these titles were announced on the 15th, pretty much everyone would be saying it's a great month. 3 classic Von Sternbergs (previously OOP), Matewan, and Haxan, plus an excellent documentary in When We Were Kings. Yes the delay made it feel anti-climactic, but that's an impressive lineup of titles regardless.

More waiting? I hope 1000 isn't Godzilla then, because I'm hoping that will be announced at Comic Con soon.

I know everyone seems to want Gojira for spine #1000, and I'll be happy for you all if you get it. But, for my money, I'd be happier with something like The Elephant Man. Been waiting on that forever.

Perhaps Godzilla will be announced at SDCC unnumbered. That way it doesn’t overshadow #1000, which can be hyped next week.

I’d sadly never heard of any of them, but Matewan seems good, as does When We Were Kings. The Sternberg set is nice. I’ll look into them, I’ll probably end up with at least one of them at some point.

Doubt it will be 1000 but I hope for November or December!

Comic con will be over by the time Criterion makes its 1,000 announcement, making whatever overlap there would be totally pointless.

Out of these I must say the Sternberg box set is by far the most interesting for me, but I'll pick up Mateway as well. Not a big fan of Häxan, but I have seen the analog restoration from 2011 on 35mm (which this new master is based upon) and it looked fantastic.

I kinda wonder if it's going to be Godzilla related at all since next week obviously doesn't align with Toho on Friday.

It's either a big title or Criterion's first UHD if it's not Godzilla.

I'm the only one, but I thought Matewan was a dreadful bore.

I'd be interested in checking out the Muhammad Ali documentary When We Were Kings though!

Some of us fake film buffs would’ve preferred a John Hughes title in this lineup. Or a Hughes collection for spine 1000 instead of some monster movies.
