Assuming the “big announcement” is between a Godzilla set or a Kubrick set, I’d be 100% for a Kubrick set. But I’m also interested and down for a surprise, third possibility.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense Spine 1000 would be a Kubrick release. You can't get much bigger than Kubrick, and Criterion has done an amazing job releasing some of his films on blu-ray. A complete box set would be the icing on the cake, 4k upgrades or not. It will be one I most definitely purchase (and I pray Eyes Wide Shut has a new 4k scan).

A Kubrick boxset would be total bollocks since most of us own a good deal of his stuff by now.

I'll triple dip depending on the supplements if it happens.

I would welcome a Kubrick box, even if I already own the WB box. I mean, it's Kubrick -- if I'm double-dipping for anyone, Kubrick's an excellent choice!

As to the American Beauty discussion, yes that movie was hated by some at the time. But as has been said, it's also incredibly popular. Personally, I think it's an excellent film and, frankly, worth it for Bening's performance alone.

I'm a pretty big Mendes fan anyway.

Info overload here...Rutger Hauer died? A film-lovers legend, very sorry to hear this.

A new Kubrick set is getting released? Maybe that explains why Criterion pulled the Dr. Strangelove release. Hopefully it's a comprehensive set with lots of extras, plus The Shining with multiple aspect ratio options.

I think it's a joint WB/Criterion set with Criterion releasing in North America and WB distributing in the rest of the world.

I dearly wish it would be a 4k release for all his WB films but I find it hard to believe, given that Leon Vitali said the 4ks are yet to be done for FMJ and EWS. Unless, that is, they've got "a big surprise" coming to us.

I think we'll see new extras, probably including "Film-worker" and maybe "My Life with Stanley", and a big book like the one in the Bergman set. I wouldn't be surprised, in fact, if it came packaged with the official exhibition book which is really nice and costs about £40 (though I'd be a bit pissed off that I bought it already).

Anyway, see you in ten hours or so when I shall be forced to eat "le pie 'umble".
T-shirts.

Seriously.

T-shirts in a box.

And really f***ing expensive t-shirts, at that.

But wait! Maybe they're meant to tie in with the big reveal of Criterion's 1000th spine which will be -!
Which will be...which....which will....beeeeeeeeeeee....

I'm sorry, Dave.

The pie's in the oven....

They actually developed a website called "the Stanley Kubrick Collection", with a countdown timer, for t-shirts?

LOL.

If this was April 1st, I'd say Warner would have won.
