Lighter than I wanted it to be but I got these from the sale. Panique was my one blind buy.

It seems like that at first, but I'd say German is far more influenced by the films of Fellini, especially in KMC.

No idea about the original negative. I just want a high quality version of it available ASAP.

I'd add the 2017 Estonian movie "November" to that list.

It would be hard for me to believe that Aleksei German wasn't heavily influenced by The Hourglass Sanitarium which is stylistically very similar to Khrustalyov, My Car! Of course it all stems back to Felini's 8 1/2. Any fans of KMC who don't own this should pick it up ASAP.

There's really a great number of variables to zero in the actual probability better

1. Do Criterion Sales make you more inclined to watch Criterion released films this time of year?
2. How big is that pool of viewing options? Describe it 6 years ago as opposed to now.
3. What's the viewing split between films you watch from your own library vs. streaming and library rentals?
4. What percentage of your viewings are rewatches?
5. How many films a day do you watch? (then vs. now)

Ok, this is getting to be ridiculous. I think you'll need an analytics team to study your viewing logs, come up a series of viewing algorithms, then calculate the probability. (unless you're happy with these crude calculations, which, heck, may be wrong. Someone needs to step in to get me off the hook.)
Andrew,

There are certainly a lot of variables. And there's no definitive way to determine the odds. I happen to think the odds of this happening as they did were very low. The item shipped earlier than it was supposed to, I then decided to watch the movies in the order of the box set. It was pure luck that I unknowingly happened to watch Wild Strawberries for the second time 6 years from the date that I watched it the first time. Especially since I originally was only going to watch the movies in the box set that I had previously not watched. It was only after I received the box set that I decided to watch them in the order presented by Criterion.

Anyway, I found it interesting and I'm going to try to watch Wild Strawberries annually on 8/1. It's as good a day as any.

Sure is. I know many on here like to watch Fanny & Alexander during the holidays. I'd like to pick up a tradition like that but my favorite Bergman films (Winter Light/Virgin Spring) are a bit too dark to watch them that often.

RIP D.A. Pennebaker.

Glad to have Monterey Pop in my collection, and really need to add Dont Look Back, too.

I have several films that I watch on the same day every year.

Miracle on 34th Street - Thanksgiving
White Christmas - Christmas Eve
The Time Machine (1960) - New Year's Eve

There are others that I always watch during a given season, but not necessarily on a particular date or holiday.

I had a thought today that the rumored UHD for #1001 would be The Other Side of the Wind. It seems all of the necessary elements are in order and Criterion could stack the release with extras.

The Longest Day - June 6 every year
Ben-Hur 1925/Ben-Hur 1959 - Christmas Eve/Christmas
The Apartment - New Year's Eve

Last week, I picked up Design for Living and Gilda. Yesterday, I was lucky to come across The Age of Innocence. Love the sale so much.

Any last minute recommendations for lesser-known films in the collection? I really enjoy the darker sides of Bergman/Tarkovsky and the weirdo stuff (John Waters/ Sweet Movie, etc.)

Have Markets Lazarova in my cart already thanks to this forum.

Pale Flower is the first thing comes to my mind. It's a very dark, twisted, nihilistic, existentialistic gambling noir romance.

Accidentally you say 😂 I grabbed Dr. Strangelove and Klute yesterday (almost made it out w/just DS, but they tricked me by having Klute on display by the check out counter and I didn’t resist the urge), so ended up grabbing 6 CC’s this sale, not too bad I suppose.

Thank you, this is one I've looked over at B&N but the trailer has me intrigued. Added to cart.

Lonesome is one of the great treasures in the collection.
