That doesn't make a huge deal of difference, really.

I sat down Saturday to watch the extended cut of The Tree of Life for the first time, and it is absolutely breath-taking. I had forgotten that The Tree of Life is a Fox Searchlight film. Something that I imagine many of us are thinking about: The sheer number of films swept into the Disney ecosystem with their purchase of Fox that may never again see the light of day on physical media, or even streaming is kind of terrifying. That sounds hyperbolic, but I think about how if this release had not come out when it did, the chances of us ever seeing it might have been zero. Then I read an article about the execs at Disney being "audibly concerned" about the content in Jojo Rabbit. Will we ever see it, or will it be relegated to a vault next to Song of the South? Maybe this belongs in a Disney thread, IDK, but anyone else a little bit freaked out that we might be at the beginning of the end for film as art with Disney sweeping up everything in their path?

Some UK titles on eBay etc are around sale price all year but yeah this sucks.

At the very least, please tell us B&N refunded you. If not, any redress possible through your credit card company, PayPal, etc. - so at least you get your money back?

They did refund me, but that doesn't help much seeing as I can no longer purchase it for anywhere near the price I paid for it a month ago.

Someone needs to tell whoever keeps their website up to date then, because I just tried and it wouldn't ship a Criterion to Manitoba.

That's funny, because I tried myself just before I posted earlier and it didn't seem to have any problems. I tried with my own address first, then picked a relative's address in the UK for comparison. The UK one got stopped as being unable to ship, my own in Canada did not. I did not actually submit the order mind you.

Well, you can still watch the film. Just not in blu-ray

Shipito from now on, I guess; and the plus side is Criterion have this 10% reward scheme going

Edit: Criterion would probably sort out your DVD problem. Is it in a BD case?
We can ship our items together, & the split the shipping costs then work out the customs fees

I paid like $4 for my All About Eve digibook. I don't like the style of the digibook, so I'll happily purchase Criterion's release, and Could War, during the November sale.

Erm, in Hollywood maybe (and even that I doubt). There is a world outside of that, it might surprise you to know.

It seems finding things in art that are "offensive" is a sport these days. In the past when people were upset they'd listen to alternative music, grow their hair long and paint their room black. Outrage culture is very real but I'm hopeful the pendulum will start to swing back the other way.

The Disney news is more the reason to support physical media as long as possible. Hosted video files can be patched and updated but pressed discs are forever (or at least until the disc rots).

What other Godzilla films does Criterion have the rights to after the Showa era?

Rodan and War of the Garantuas, if you count them as Godzilla films.

I wonder if The House That Jack Built and Wildlife could get Criterion releases since SF hasn’t released them.

I just noticed El Norte will be getting a theatrical re-release for its 35th Anniversary, in September, at a couple AMC theaters in my area. That's pretty surprising.

Given some of the vicious attitudes about immigration and immigrants in the USA, that doesn’t surprise me a bit.
