Two strong recommendations from the collection that I have recently watched:
1. THE BAKER’S WIFE: unexpectedly hilarious offering from that Pagnol character. Just a great film from just barely pre-occupation France. Not to be missed.
2. PAUL WHITEMAN - KING OF JAZZ: This one floored me. Bought it for a song during the last B&N sale on a lark. One of the more unique films in the collection. Very early color, great music, many surprises. The commentary and extras are beyond belief.
Don’t miss either one!

Criterion announced the Bergman set a few days before the director's birthday. If the same is done for Fellini's centennial this could possibly mean a January 2020 announcement with an April 2020 release.

This set could possibly include (If Criterion has the rights for everything again):

8 1/2 (New 4k scan?)
Amarcord
And the Ship Sails On
La Dolce Vita (Existing blu-ray is excellent)
Fellini Satryicon
I vitelloni
Juliet of the Spirits
Nights of Cabiria
Roma
La Strada
Variety Lights
The White Sheik
All the existing stuff sure... but I’d really love to get Il Bidone and Love in the city in there. Spirit of the Dead or at least just the Toby Dammit as a supplement... also I’m sure they could get Ginger and Fred and Casanova from Warner. Intervista... maybe they could license a deal with Coen for City of Women or Arrow for Voice in the Moon, or I Clowns/orchestra rehearsal

I want it all! As much as they possibly can. They licensed stuff for the Bergman Box like Serpent’s Egg, they can do it for Federico

With a a Kiarostami set almost certainly coming next year, and possibly a Wong Kar-wai one too, I can't see them doing another director as well. At least not in the first half of the year, as we'd probably already have gotten word of a major retrospective happening, or about to happen (like with Kiarostami).

Next year is Akira Kurosawa’s 110 birthday. So I could see them going with him and maybe a Kar-wai set this year.

Spoiler alert he’s dead, but you can still celebrate people’s birthday after they’ve died. If there is a way to write that, which involves saying he is dead, then let me know.

It's still his birthday even if he doesn't get to celebrate it. I guess one could say "Next year is the late Akira Kurosawa’s 110 birthday."

Kline said Italy has been restoring everything for his centennial and to look for 2020 being the year of Fellini—so there is some weight behind the speculation of a box set. But I it’s speculation just like Kiarostami/Wong

"Next year would have been Akira Kurosawa’s 110th birthday."

That's another question... is Criterion going to "upgrade" their own blu-rays at some point in the future ?

Been too long since we got a Kurosawa film. Years since Toho's Red Beard restoration that was shown at the Venice film festival in 2015. I really expected to see a Bluray release.

Next year is Akira Kurosawa’s 22nd anniversary of his Death, maybe they will put out a box set of 22 of his works.

More adventures with B&N Customer Service regarding my Asphalt Jungle cock-up:
Quote:
koberulz: But why can't you tell me why the error occurs?
Genamir: We don't have the concrete information, since it was the system will detect your orders if it can shipped to your address.
koberulz: But surely someone programs the system?
koberulz: I'm assuming you don't just randomly let the system block orders for no reason.
Genamir: Yes, that is correct, koberulz. However, that is out of my scope support.
koberulz: Why is it?
Genamir: I am only assisting customers and provide information, and we don't have the information about the errors in our system. We will take note of this and will raise your concern to our Team.
koberulz: So your job is to provide information, but you can't provide this information?
Genamir: Yes, that is correct.

This is a good question. I personally would still contact Criterion about a replacement. This is a rare situation and to my knowledge I'm not sure if criterion ever re-released a title from a previous remaster they did to a new one they did. The current one is pretty great as is IMO.

I saw The Heiress for the first time and Wow! What a film! The other Wyler film I've seen is Ben-Hur which I'm not a fan of (great spectacle but the story doesn't do much for me). The Heiress, on the other hand, is a spectacular, character-driven drama. DeHavilland's transformation in the film is astounding and the final scenes gave me the chills. Clift and Richardson are also superb in their respective roles. I'm so glad when I blind buy a film and it turns out to be so good. The BD is also great with wonderful PQ and AQ. I haven't delved into the bonus features but I will do it soon and as I want to know more about this wonderful film. Also, I'm going to look for more Wyler films starting with Jezebel and The Best Years of Our Lives.
