This Halloween it's definitely going to be heavy on the 'wtf' vibe from Japan with -

Hausu
Goke Body Snatcher from Hell (from When Horror Came to Shochiku)

and top it off with Island of Lost Souls. There's something pitch-perfect about the way that movie allows Dr. Moreau back himself in that creates a chill like few other films... and the beasties!

Island of Lost Souls is definitely one of my favourite films in the CC and one of my all time favourite films of all time! It doesn't have to be Halloween for me to enjoy it, can watch it whenever the mood strikes!

This Halloween I might have to give Eyes Without a Face and Shallow Grave another viewing each.

During the Halloween season, which to me is the entire month of October, I usually watch some Hammer films, the Universal Monsters Collection, and Criterion's release of Kuroneko.

This Halloween season I've really been craving some old black and white classics. I'm gonna pick up Warner Archives' release for Village of the Damned and Criterion's The Innocents on my next payday. I picked up The Uninvited last week.

Speaking for myself I do. Halloween makes horror even better though. You don't get in the spirit ever?

The only Criterion I own that could reasonably be called a horror is Valley of the Dolls.

Ha ha, if you think that is horror, you should check out Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. The ending will give you nightmares.....

It’s too late for this Halloween, but I’d love an announcement for Arsenic and Old Lace. In the meantime, I’ll probably watch Night of the Living Dead and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!.

I’ve got the UK BD but would have easily double dipped for the US if Criterion were involved. One of my favorite films of the year easily. Disappointed.

I first saw this at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York. It holds a prominent spot on a wall of silent/golden era Hollywood actors.
She's one of my favorites from that era. I keep hoping someone brings Piccadilly to BluRay where she gets to shine whereas in Hollywood she was a victim of the terrible anti-miscegenation laws of the day.

I have plenty of silent horror from Eureka and Kino that I plan on watching during the month of October. I also will be giving Psycho and The Birds a watch during October. Might even give my Flicker Alley copy of The Man Who Laughs another watching next month.

Valley of the Dolls

or

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

If I were to own only one of these Criterion-released films, which would you choose? (me, I'd choose "Beyond")

Definitely Beyond. One of my most watched films. I really wish more Meyer was available.

Exactly. Horror's fun year round, but it's especially fun during the Halloween season. That's when I want to marathon weeks of it instead of just watching one or two. From Criterion, I'll be watching these next month:

Carnival of Souls
Night of the Living Dead
The Blob
Equinox
Rosemary's Baby
The Innocents
The Brood

I watch so much horror all year ‘round nowadays that I usually take a break in October. The other thing I sometimes do is marathon a horror series like Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc., just to change it up a bit. You end up watching a lot of stinkers this way but at least you feel like you accomplished something.
