I have to say, your post and the too obvious part got me thinking "Maybe Fail Safe isn't so definite as it seems." I've been patting myself on the back the last few months for guessing the clues correctly. But, in the immortal words of the philosopher Gorilla Monsoon: "Remember, a pat on the back is just 18 inchs away from a kick in the a$$."

Or you could all be overanalyzing and the clue is supposed to be easy.

I recently saw Cold War. This was on the UK blu from Artificial Eye, but I thought I'd also discuss my impressions of the movie here since there is to be a Criterion release in Nov, most probably based on the same source master.
IMO, Cold War is like a Euro mash of When Harry Met Sally and that Stanley Donen classic Two for the Road. Two people meet and fall in intense love, then part and repeatedly meet at different time points, and find that they can neither live with or without each other. Truth be told its acclaim seems a tad excessive - the socio-political backdrop adds some dimension, but it's lightweight emotionally, and seems to pay more attention to its gorgeously crafted B&W visual styling (and the terrific soundtrack, which in a good way brings to mind the scores of Kieslowski's movies like Double Life of Veronique and Three Colors: Blue). But it's a lovely date movie for arthouse couples ![]() The 4:3 image is eye-poppingly gorgeous and surround mix lush and involving on the AE blu, as I imagine it will also be on the Criterion. Almost any frame in the film could be taken and hung up in a picture exhibition. ![]() Last edited by ravenus; 09-30-2019 at 08:03 AM. |

And the way they capture that smokey 50's Paris jazz vibe is brilliant. I felt like I was there. |
