I get the impression that a lot of people go to my local B&N to read comics, and window shop books to later buy on Amazon.

I’ve given up trying to figure out B&N’s business practices. I mean, for most of the year they have racks of Criterion’s collecting dust at MSRP, and a few times a year they sell them at 50% off. I don’t know what their profit margin is at those prices, but it can’t be much. I honestly don’t know how they’ve stayed in business as long as they have.

Just search Target for the titles you're looking for. If you have any trouble, try searching by its UPC code.
Thank you so much for the heads up! I just ordered Holiday, The Fugitive Kind and The Story of Temple Drake. Very happy I didn't have to wait for the Criterion flash sale to get these.

The main store I frequent used to be full of older/retired people reading through stacks of magazines. B&N must have got fed up with it as they did away with the seating near that section - but people still take them to the cafe.

I buy a couple of magazines a month, and far fewer Criterion during the 50% events than I used to (having switched to the flash sales). I can't remember the last time I bought a book there for exactly the reason you state - although I did learn recently that stores will now match B&N online prices (but even these are typically higher than Amazon).

Granted, they sell other media, toys, games, eReaders, magazines, and (in most locations) Starbucks and food, but they still mostly sell books. I don't think their biannual Criterion sales are solely responsible for sustaining the company throughout the year.
obviously I wasnt referring to B&N. "their films" was a pretty big hint as to what company I was talking about.

As much as I like that movie, I can't quite imagine buying it again.

Though it's said the sound mix is no good on the American version.

Dr. Welzer is here, a wonderful doctor. Gave a guy six months to live, he couldn't pay his bill, gave him another six months.

I've heard that, too.

Unfortunately I've been hallucinating a giant insect which won't stop leaving me alone or buzzing, and the occasional friends like other insects, big cats, and even humans, etc. The less I pay attention to them, the more I "tell" them that I know they aren't real, the more complex all this becomes. It was funny, because I quickly thought to myself, then "acted on," thinking along the lines, "I know you idiots aren't actually here! Why don't you freakin' disappear? You can't do anything to me! You wouldn't exist without me!"

Within like 3 seconds I realized, "I can't dictate rules to myself. Damn. I would have done it already!"

But the point is, the absolutely CONSTANT buzz around my head is driving me somewhat batty. It's like much earlier today, I was looking at my 4K TV and wondering what was wrong with everything?! Finally understood it was going on inside my head. Just like the cheetah across the room. LOL

Eh. I don't think it's any big thing. Just not getting enough sleep by a long shot, and spending way too much time alone. One of those NyQuil Night can solve. One not so much. Aww, heck: Whom am I complaining against? Earlier one of those that "showed up" was Ryan Gosling. Seriously, I'm not kidding. I mean, I would choose a GoWtW age Vivien Leigh, but ... really, who is going to complain about hanging with Gosling while one loses his mind?

There are worse ways to go ...

Trust me: If my methodology doesn't turn out working, then I will ask him. Until then, I think it's really a question of NyQuil Night. Heh.

In my local B&Ns (yes, there are at least 3 in reasonable driving distance), I've always had to get in a line for the cashiers. Maybe once in while I can go right up to a cashier, but usually I have to wait in line.

Well, they do have other sales that go on through the year. While you can't get 50% off at these other sales, you can get as much as 33% if it's a B2G1 sale.

I have two near me and it’s about the same. But I know there are a lot of slow ones out there too. I travel all over the US for work and I’ve bopped into quite a few of their stores over the years. Some seem to be barely alive, but I see steady to busy ones for the most part. The deadest ones are usually attached to an indoor mall.

I’ve been reading predictions of their demise for more than a decade. And it could still happen, but I do know there are still a lot of book lovers out there who enjoy picking up a book on the shelf vs hoping that the thing in the box doesn’t look like it was hit by a bus. I do plenty of both, but I sure love having the option.

The B&N in downtown Seattle has just announced that it is closing.

I think their stores are closing on a case-by-case basis.

Amazon is currently running a Buy 3, Get 1 for free with more than a few Criterion discs eligible. Some are priced at 22.97 with others at $27.97.

What's the likelihood of a Fellini boxset announcement on today, his 100th birthday?

I mean, it’s a holiday in the US and they don’t typically do announcements of any kind on holidays.
