Given that Arrow have delivered stellar encodes of 12 Monkeys, Time Bandits, and (just recently) Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, my default preference goes to them. That said, I'm still very much a Criterion fanboy and would be overjoyed to grab a new edition from them as well. My guess is we'll see something here in the next year. |

Sorry to get back on the teal train, but this puts a whole different spin on the issue since this time around it's not a Criterion title that can be accused of tealing the picture but a new release of a Criterion title by another label -- or rather two. Namely, VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS and PARIS, TEXAS. Here are links to the comparisons. I wonder if Lee Kline still stands rock solid behind the teal now that Criterion has released the correctly looking versions (yes, tealing is wrong, guys -- it always was, it always will be, Criterion or not).

With what we know coming out this year, Criterion already locked down Best boutique label of 2020, and it's only January.

I wonder with this news and the fact they have a relationship with Amazon and Neon if they will be increasing their number of titles per month to include even more modern titles and fulfill their promise of being a “Important collection of contemporary and classic films”.

I just watched Atlantics yesterday, by coincidence, and I thought it was a very good movie that could use a supplements-filled release. For those who might not know, the director, Mati Diop, is the niece of Djibril Diop Mambéty, the Senegalese director who created Touki Bouki, which is part of Criterion's World Cinema Project releases. |
