I'd like an upgrade of King Kong as well, but it's so much money at the moment. It'd be nice if that came out too.

Hi everyone. I don't know most of you, but for the last 8 or 9 years I've been posting here, I just want to say its been a pleasure partaking in posts.

If for some reason this site gets shut down or internet service providers have to shut down from lack of manpower because of the pandemic and I cannot get online anymore, I want to say I enjoyed all of the posts shared here over the past decade I've been here.

The Criterion thread here on blu-ray.com has been the single most active thread I'd ever participated in on a web forum, in my entire life. I've shared many bits of cinema knowledge and have received quite a bit too. It would be a shame if suddenly everything in our day to day life suddenly comes to a grinding halt because of this current public health crisis (Coronavirus/COVID-19), but I guess all good things must come to an end someday.

One thing that will never disappear is the memory of cinema and film. Movies will always be around, whether preserved deep underground in a time capsule or in the cloud. We life forms may not be around but the movies and memories will be. Good luck, wash your hands, keep some social distancing, and boost your immune systems as you defend yourselves from the Coronavirus pandemic.

I'm just being proactive and trying to stay ahead of the curve! You never know what life will bring! When you get a chance, seize the opportunity.

This isn't goodbye.

It's HELLO!

But yeah, every time people freak you out and get hysterical, just pop in the Criterion DVD release of Armageddon, and you'll be home free!

I can't speak for other sites or the internet in general, but I'm sure this site would have many willing volunteers ready to jump in and help out if need be.

Yes, and no worries, its all online! No need to physically expose oneself. Pretty soon, the machines will run themselves!

Yes. And I was going to say, its time to dust off that old Criterion laserdisc of The Terminator, but I forgot Criterion never actually released that on laserdisc. Lol.

In fact, DVD's could outsell Blu-Ray's and Blu-Ray's could still bring in a higher share.
It looks like the MSRP of the Blu-rays actually tends to be ~33% higher than the DVDs (39.95 vs. 29.95). Although, some DVDs are listed at 39.95, and I can't figure out what would make them different from the 29.95 ones. It doesn't seem to be 2-DVD vs 1-DVD titles, because I've seen examples of both.

I think because of the premium prices for Criterion, the price differential for Blu-rays may be a significant factor for many buyers who may be generally satisfied enough by Criterion DVD quality. Seeing how many titles from many labels are still being released on DVD only, I have no trouble believing that for Criterion, DVDs could possibly be outselling Blu-rays in terms of dollars, and not just units.

I wouldn't be surprised either. But someone here reported that Criterion said it was 60/40 Blu-Ray to DVD. I was simply indicating that this may relate to total income as opposed to units sold. Criterion can sell fewer Blu-Rays and still bring in more money than DVD sales because of the price differential.

If they went all out on supplements, they'd easily be able to add another 3-4 hours of content just with what they've been doing on other Welles releases. Interviews with their usual Welles experts like Simon Callow, Joseph McBride, James Naremore, and Jonathan Rosenbaum; another Craig Barron/Ben Burtt piece on the visual effects and sound design, Welles' short films The Hearts of Age and Too Much Johnson, etc. On top of the Ebert and Bogdanovich commentaries and The Battle over Citizen Kane.

(I'd be fine with Warner putting out a release with this stuff, too)

Are the announcements for the upcoming batch tomorrow, instead of today? I imagine the weekends are usually an off day for Criterion.

Usually, if the 15th falls on a Saturday or Sunday then they announce the following Monday (barring any holiday)
