As an Olympic lover do you think its worth it to get the whole box set or is Tokyo Olympiad the only real highlight of the set

I think it's probably the pinnacle in terms of filmmaking, but by no means alone in terms of quality. The box set is incredible...if you are interested as much in the cultural and geopolitical history of the Games as the sport. I still haven't watched everything, but as a self-confessed "Olympic lover" I think you would absolutely be glad to own it.

Edit:

I should have mentioned that the Riefenstahl films of the 1936 Berlin Games, and the Albert Isaac film of Mexico 1968 are just two examples of what I would consider other essential Olympic documentaries in the set.

Just a heads-up, the $10 off next order offer that Criterion has been sending out was in my junk folder today.

I got one yesterday. Ordered Fail Safe and The Great Escape. They won't arrive until May since TGE is a pre-order, but I can wait. I ran the numbers, and I spent 3 more dollars here as opposed to waiting for the next B&N sale. I'm okay with that.

Do criterion promo codes expire? I’ll gladly take the $10, but not really buying anything but food (and booze) right now.

I had already pre-ordered Leave Her to Heaven and Show Boat when they had the discount come up, but just put in a preorder of Husbands and Scorsese Shorts using the $10 off.

I tend to use whatever certificates and credits I get during the next opportunity (e.g. flash sale), but none have ever come with an indication that there's an expiration date, so no, I don't believe they do.

International House (1933, A. Edward Sutherland)
Tillie and Gus (1933, Francis Martin)
Six of a Kind (1934, Leo McCarey)
You're Telling Me! (1934, Erle C. Kenton)
The Old Fashioned Way (1934, William Beaudine)
Mr. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1934, Norman Taurog)
It's a Gift (1934, Norman Z. McLeod)
Mississippi (1935, A. Edward Sutherland)
Man on the Flying Trapeze (1935, Clyde Bruckman/W.C. Fields)
Poppy (1936, A. Edward Sutherland)
The Big Broadcast of 1938 (1938, Mitchell Leisen)
You Can't Cheat An Honest Man (1938, George Marshall)
My Little Chickadee (1940, Edward Cline)
The Bank Dick (1940, Edward Cline)
Never Give a Sucker An Even Break (1941, Edward Cline)

I actually have only seen the ten films Universal released on DVD initially across two box sets, so a lot of these will be new. The box would be worth it at least for International House, You're Telling Me!, Man on the Flying Trapeze, It's a Gift, The Bank Dick, and Never Give a Sucker an Even Break. Even with 16 films, half of them are only around an hour long, so it would be easy to fit everything across 6-7 discs.

There's also the MGM film David Copperfield, but it's with Warner Bros. - though, I can see it either as a licensed separate title or through Warner Archive. The DVD released by Warner ages ago had a really beautiful transfer for the time (the original negative apparently survived).
Those 6 short films that Criterion released on DVD wouldn't be included in this set, right?

It's possible. Most are in the public domain, though Cohen Media did 2K restorations of The Golf Specialist, The Pharmacist, and The Barber Shop (the latter two are still copyrighted). Keystone Films restored The Fatal Glass of Beer and The Dentist for the Mack Sennett Collection (released by Flicker Alley). Pool Sharks wouldn't be an issue anymore since it's fully public domain now.

Criterion did license "All Americans" from Cohen for King of Jazz, so it's probably in the cards. Would be nice to have all his sound comedies in one set.

What are the rest of you who are trapped at home watching?
Other than keeping up with some broadcast TV shows, I've been spending time reading rather than watching.

I have no shortage of blind-buys I need to get through, especially from previous Criterion sales. Up till now though, I've been blowing through blind-buys I had from other sales (Twilight Time and Arrow titles primarily). Did watch Summer Interlude yesterday (slowly but surely making through the Ingmar Bergman box set).

I ought to switch it up. I have half a mind to pop in Shoah, which would take up the whole day. I've also got the two Police Story films shortlisted--been wanting to view more martial arts films anyway.

I don't have -- and haven't seen -- The A-Team, as I was never a fan of the original series. (I'm assuming you're talking about the movie with Neeson, Cooper, et alia.)

But I empathize with your reasoning. My defense of Independence Day: Resurgence amounted to "If what you want is 2 hours full of shit blowing up, this is the movie for you."

Talking

In anticipation of a Portrait of A Lady on Fire I have been watching some of Celine Sciamma’s other films on the Criterion Channel. I just finished Water Lilies and I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. I had great empathy for Marie for most of the film but I didn't get why she was such a jerk to Anne. Its not like anyone ever mistakes Marie for a cool kid. I would guess that Marie would be referred to as “that weird chick Floriane hangs with occasionally”. So many things to think about / discuss with this film.

Not sure how many have seen this film since I don't remember anyone ever talking about it but thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated lol

PS - Adèle Haenel is amazing even as a teenager.

Got the $10 coupon, yesterday. Plan on placing an order on the 1st of the month as I'm eyeing the Nikkatsu Noir Eclipse set and Branded to Kill.
