Does anyone know if Guy Maddin's Brand Upon the Brain is out of print? I see it's listed for outrageous prices on Amazon listings, out of stock on B&N, and Backordered on Criterion's site. Love that film, but feel like I missed my chance for some reason.

B&N has a very poor website, and inventory confusion and other issues are commonplace during any "normal" Criterion 50% event. No surprises that things are even worse this time around, unfortunately. |

started the ingmar bergman box set tonight with smiles of a summer night. going with criterion's curated order - and then reading the the section of the film in the included book.
i know smiles of a summer night is a rare comedy from bergman, but it was really pleasant and witty. and for a comedy made in the 50s, it didn't come off as date at all. reminded me of truffaut a bit. very excited to watch the rest. maybe 1 or 2 a week or something. i want to savor it |

Jupiter Ascending.
You want to talk about popularity? On this site, it has a 5.7/10 movie rating. The 4K edition has a popularity of 61%, is in 612 collections, and has 73 fans. The blu-ray of Barry Lyndon has 84% popularity, is in 1627 collections, and has 134 fans. And that's the original Warner edition. For the Criterion edition, it's 89%, 2253, and 134. But this back and forth is pointless. I'm not saying that a 4K of Barry Lyndon is guaranteed or inevitable or even highly likely. I'm just saying that it's not beyond the realm of possibility. You seem to think that Warner won't even consider it. It doesn't look like either of us is going to convince the other. Last edited by jayembee; 07-12-2020 at 12:22 PM. |

Trouble In Paradise was restored by UCLA a few years ago. Would Criterion have access to that restoration under their existing home video rights? I’ve been yearning for a
Blu-ray upgrade since before I bought the DVD! |

Seriously? It seems like you want to argue just for the sake of arguing. What I choose to do isn't relevant to what someone else might choose to do.
But if you must have an answer, I already have the Criterion BD of Barry Lyndon, and have had it for, oh, probably a year and a half. I originally had the Warner LD. I replaced that with the Warner DVD. I replaced that with the Warner BD. And I replaced that with the Criterion BD. I won't replace the Criterion BD with a hypothetical Warner UHD, because I've always held onto my Criterions. Chances are, anyway, that such a Warner UHD would not include Criterion's extras. I will, however, buy such a UHD to have in addition to the Criterion BD, and will undoubtedly watch the UHD whenever I have a hankering for this movie. |

I was going to share a pic of my B&N haul from yesterday but computer is having issues uploading the pic at the moment. Anyways here's what I managed to grab:
The Red Shoes The Lady Eve The Cranes Are Flying Wings of Desire Come and See Bruce Lee Boxset I've seen all of these at least once except for Wings of Desire and the Bruce Lee films (have only ever watched Enter the Dragon). I wasn't planning on grabbing this box set but couldn't resist once I spotted it. I went in looking for Until the End of the World but didn't see it so I grabbed Wings of Desire instead. I've heard that this is actually a better film so don't expect to have any regrets. I'll probably end up placing an online order before the sale is over. |

Found some Reddit post of a person who had depression and he spent about $2000 worth of Criterion. It seems like depression is another reason why other than the quarantine people are spending a lot of money on Criterion. I didn't know film could actually ease depression that well (Or stop or cure. I don't know what to really say). I hope anyone who is having depression right now is doing fine and wish you the best of luck in the future.

In case any of you guys are into books on film, Taschen is doing a sale on their display copies, 25–75% off. The sale ends tonight.
https://www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalogue/film/all.htm I personally own The Definitive Jacques Tati and The Stanley Kubrick Archives books and they are magnificent. |

I think people are spending more on physical media, because as film fans, we don't have anything else to spend it on. Theatres are closed and no new movies are getting released. |

But they aren't. Physical media sales are still down for the year compared to last year, like they are every year. Steaming, though, is WAY up.
